Hi everyone, Im looking for some advice on reccomended campsites to stay for 1 night on route from Calais to La Tranche Sur Mer for next July (2011).

I will be booking a return trip on the Euro tunnel to Calais, where I will then have a 400 mile trip to La tranche in the Vendee. Im guessing it will be a 7 - 8 hour run in my VW Transporter with a couple of stops for my two children.

Ideally I would like to get the majority of the journey done in the first day leaving a 2 -3 hour trip the next day.

Does anyone have any reccomended campsite(s) that would suit a family of four with young children aged 6 and 4 staying in a camper with awning. We are not looking for a big lively site but something which has good facilities with a bar and some amenities close by.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Andy.

take a look at www.viamichelin.com, put in your route then look at the timings to see how far you get in the time you're allowing on the first day. google maps will show you campsites in the location you decide on and then you can look up the campsite reviews to see if they'd suit you.

You're probably looking at the Loire for your overnight. I'd recommend Le Sabot the municipal at Azay le Rideau. No bar but only 5 mins walk into the village, 2 mins drive to the supermarket.

Could also try Etang de la Breche near Saumur - bar / restaurant on site (a bit pricey though).

Plenty more sites between Tours and Saumur.

Bar prices on campsites in France tend to be a tad on the high side - better off buying bottles from the supermarket and getting to know your neighbours on the campsite IMHO.

We're doing that exact same route this summer (with 2 children) and have booked a municipal in Malicorne sur Sarthe (just south of Le Mans) for a 1 night stopover, not sure how it's going to pan out, but will be able to tell you more after!

There are at least 3 municiples between Rouen & Le Mans which you should be able to reach reasonably comfortably. We've stayed at the municiples at Bernay & Sees & found them brilliant for a stop over.

Bernay;

I can't find a link for the Sees campsite, but it is called Le Clos Normand.

& Beaumont sur Sarthe which we haven't used but is well recommended;
