Hi. Am setting of with my 3 boys to Amsterdam for a few days in August to stay with family. I have not camped abroad ever and was thinking of spending 2-3 days maybe in the west of germany on way back (sort of!) to Dunkirk. Any ideas on where to stay? maybe go as far a cologne area (within 200 miles of Amsterdam approx)   Would only be a 2 or 3 one night stays.

Any advice very welcome,

We stayed in Saarburg for a week, which is probably a little further than you wish to go. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a relatively easly journey back to Calais.(We made it back to Calais mid afternoon)

We also benefited from filling up with cheaper diesel in Luxembourg on the way back via Belgium.

Hi,

How old are your boys and what do they like doing ,I would recomend anywhere along the Mosel valley there are loads of campsites all the way down and the area is stunning ,i have heard the camping is brill although not been myself lol but i live in germany so know most areas , if i can help in anyway

Thanks. we have booked here..http://www.camping-koeln.de/index.php?lng=en&nav=index   for a couple of days then onto France. Looks a good base to have a good look around Cologne!
