Hello. We are planning our first camping trip to Normandy in September this year. I had planned to go to Camping de la Foret at Jumieges but I now think this might be a little too far away from all the beaches as I don't want to spend all the time driving. I have had another look and both the municipal site at Bayeux and Le Picard look good. I understand that you can't book municipal sites but I would hope we wouldn't have a problem in September. What do you think? Also we would ideally like to be able to walk into town to eat etc from the campsite and I can't tell if you can do that from Le Picard. Does anyone know? Thanks

You definitely won't have a problem finding a pitch in September - but do check that the municipal site is open. French sites have a very short season, and some municipal sites are only open in peak season. In the case of Sauze Vaussais, where our friends live, the opening dates are from the middle of July to the middle of August ONLY! Many others close on the last day of August.
Hi Just back from Normandy ,we stayed at Le Cormoran campsite ,it was lovely, just had to cross the road onto Utah Beach which is really nice , we were close enough to visit all the other historical sites all within 20 km or so .We were on a battlefield tour, if thats your thing we can def give you more info LOL
I have been looking at a couple of nights in Bayeux on the way to Belgium in August, but now am torn between there and Arromanches les Bains. They both look good.
We stayed in Le Picard last year.
It would be quite a walk into the town, but they have a small resturant on site which is quite good. Maybe the owners could arrange a taxi, they are very good.
We loved this site, not too big or commercialised. The pool stays open quite late, we could sit at the bar while our kids swam.
Thought the site fees were good value for money.
We have two kids, 12yrs and 14yrs and they both liked it, but then they are not interested in clubs etc.
We found it very central to cover all of the D Day landing beaches.
Have tried posting photos before for someone else who was thinking of here, but for some reason the link dosent work.

In September there are two ACSI sites near the D day beaches at st aubin sur mer, this is a big commercial site which we have used and enjoy. The other site is at Berniere very close to jumo beach.
