Food in supermarkets is reasonbly priced. We didn't see many big supermarkets, like you see in France, but smaller local supermarkets. Was charged £4 for a small bag of potatos, which I questioed at the till. Turned out to be a mistake. So, as in the Uk , always check your till receipt!

Thank you all so much for your input. I think we'll be taking things like tinned tomatoes, cereal, squash with us, going on a recce when we get there and checking out the difference between the German and Swiss supermarkets for what we want.
I have already looked at either Aldi or Lidl Germany online and found that the beer and wine seemed very reasonable, but we will need to buy other things.
I'll let people know how we got on when we get back.

where are you staying?
We live in Basel which is bordering both Germany and France and lucky enough we have all 3 languages (wife does anyway). Give us a shout if you need anything checking or help. We have just returned from Spain on our first ever camping holiday and loved it. It was great from the off seeing how other campers offered with help etc. Time to pay back and do our good deeds ....if we can

We're (hopefully, as haven't booked - never do) staying at Arbon on Bodensee. As I said above, when we were on Lake Geneva the Swiss seemed to come and do a month's load of shopping at the French supermarkets.
We usually live quite simply when on holiday, but I am tossing up between spending the petrol on driving to Germany every few days or buying from Swiss supermarkets.
I think we're going to take pasta and rice with us, too and just buy bread, fresh stuff and ice creams! from the supermarkets.
Thanks for your offer. I'll certainly be back if I can think of anything. Luckily, I speak French and German so can read the Aldi German websites.

If I were you I'd just explore the Swiss stores.
Plenty of choice and if there's a Co-op, reasonably priced.
A word of warning though - not all the Swiss Co-ops take credit cards! This resulted once in us having to put back several bottles of bargain-priced Chianti!
