Hi all

wondering if anyone can suggest the best motorway service station stops going South in France?  We are heading down to Limoges way going round Paris next weekend and we usually stop JUST after Paris to get our breath back and refuel (car & tummies!)  some of the service stations are grotty and some are amazing - any recommendations?

We are then travelling further down - heading towards Beziers again - where is the best place to stop?  Last year on the way back we stopped JUST after Carcassonne and the place was amazing - the food and coffee were great, should we head on to there again - or are there any better suggestions around Toulouse?

Thanks heaps!!!

Rain

Have you thought about taking a picnic. I prefer the quieter Aire de pique-nique on the autoroutes. Look out for the aires with a picnic table sign and follow the sign to the picnic area.

You only need a bagette, some filling and some drink. We take a blanket to lay on the ground, but many people get out chairs and a table. This is a much more relaxed (and French way) to have lunch.

Only trouble with the smaller aires are the grotty toilets which my teenage daughter refused to use due to hole in ground and full of spiders.  We have just returned from Spain travelling to and from Dunkerque via Limoges and we had no trouble with the bigger Aires. All the diesel on the motorways was 1.28 euros, so still cheaper than over here. If you fill up in the towns you can expect to pay about 1.12 for diesel at the supermarket garages.  In Spain we were only paying 1.05!   We always stop at La Baille de Somme about an hour and a half from Calais/Dunkerque to refuel and eat both ways.

In the small picnic aires, there are always seated disabled toilets, and when the facilities are quiet, thats what I use, only ever for a quick 30 second wee, (or is that too much info?!)
