There are roadworks near the end of the M275 just past ferry port turn off . This makes the traffic queues longer especially rush hours. Most times of the day are not too badly affected but worth thinking about it when you are planning travel times. 0700 --0930 very busy with possible queues can be the same 1530 --1730.
Only affects going to the ferry

If thats 7am you will have no problem, saturday at that time will be fairly quiet, rush hour tends to be a bit later weekends. If its evening I would allow a little time just in case sometimes its busy other times you will get through with no delay
I think they are due to finish in December (at least I think that was written on the sign when I drove past last week). Itr's definitely worth allowing a bit of extra time for your journey, after all if you miss a LD Lines or Brittany Ferries crossing it's a long wait til the next sailing.
I would not recomend any other route, portsmouth is on a peninsular The M275 ends at Portsmouth if you come off early you will struggle to get there. If the motorway is busy the side roads into Portsmouth will be twice as bad. If you come off at Lee you will go through the Fareham traffic and Portsmouth traffic there is hardly any dual carriageway it is all small roads with lots of traffic lights and roundabouts. I see this every day commuting into Portsmouth. Leave a little extra time for the trip, try to miss rush hours and you will be fine. If you cannot miss the rush hours it is better and quicker to queue on the motorway than try to use the side roads.
Thanks for the info. John. I'll take your advice, allow for extra time and sit out any traffic on the Motorway. We are travelling down on Saturday so we may rest up at South-Sea for an hour or two before the evening ferry.

If you are going to Southsea for the afternoon try using the A2030 eastern road this will miss out all the road works. You will have to go through them going from Southsea to the ferry or go back down eastern road and along M275 .
If you just want somewhere to stop there is a big tesco on way into portsmouth ( From southampton side West ) there is a pizza hut KFC etc next to it, also Port Solent marina and shops 100yds further on, all within 1 minute of motorway easy on and off. if you are coming from the East Stay on M27 pass M275 slip road go up the hill to first junction signed Fareham round and back onto motorway exit at bottom of hill ( by the Marriot hotel)
One last thing anyone travelling down this weekend possible extra busy roads as its Navy Days.
