Hi, we are travelling from Leeds to catch the 8.30pm ferry to St Malo next Saturday. We want to give ourselves plenty of time for the journey but wondered if there was anywhere we could park up if we get there far too early! Are you allowed to park in the terminal or are there any services, maybe on the m27 where we could lay low for a while? Any help gratefully received!

You can park up in the ferry terminal, (or at least we have done once) and there's a pub nearby where you can 'hang-out' for a bit. There are roadworks, apparently, on the approach road to the port, which may cause some delays.
We very nearly missed a ferry from Portsmouth once (travelling from near Leeds) - because we had a horrendous journey down, with every sort of traffic hold-up possible. It was only a very helpful check-in booth operator who made it possible for us to get on the ferry. We've never used the Portsmouth crossing since!
Thanks for the warning. Think we'll set about 11ish. Can't wait now, I've just seen a forecast and its sunny, sunny, sunny!!! (hope i've got enough sun cream) there's always something to worry about!!!

There are roadworks on the M275 Carol, not sure if you knew this.
Aren't these roadworks after you turn into the port off the M275? They certainly didn't effect us when we passed through Portsmouth a few weeks back. They may of course moved since then.
You can stop on the apron approach to the check-ins and once through these there are good cafe and toilet facilities.
The roadworks are after the ferry port but the traffic queues back up well before the ferry port turn off during rush hours.
If you just want somewhere to stop there is a big tesco on way into portsmouth ( From southampton side West ) there is a pizza hut KFC etc next to it, also Port Solent marina and shops 100yds further on, all within 1 minute of motorway easy on and off. if you are coming from the East Stay on M27 pass M275 slip road go up the hill to first junction signed Fareham round and back onto motorway exit at bottom of hill ( by the Marriot hotel)
Beware this weekend its Navy Days so could be extra traffic on roads
We always drive over to the east side of the town and park on the sea front. There are restaurants and amusements, plus some nice bits of historical maritime stuff to see. We get fish and chips, go for a walk and let the kids run off steam before heading back to the ferry terminal. The kids always know the holiday has started properly when we get to portsmouth

the d day museum is good. it has alot of interesting war displays about how people lived and an amzing tapestry. The parking is good too. we took an 13 year old there and they enjoyed it.
We often watch our ferry coming in from near the amusements and have a silly game of crazy golf. Blows off the cobwebs after the drive.
