Someone on here posted these directions about 2 years ago. Use these directions for Rouen and you wont get lost.

Rouen is big but very easy. Stay on the A28 down the hill and through the long tunnel;

 get into the right hand lane (nearside in France) before or inside the tunnel, and HOLD THIS LANE straight ahead all the way to the River Bridge.

 Still STAY IN YOUR LANE at the other end of the Bridge (there is another lane by now on your right, and one on your left), but slow right down because your lane loops off to the right VERY sharply down and under yourself, to put you on the D18E

 through the industrial area of Sotteville(straight on at all lights and roundabouts) and out onto the Autoroute. Follow the signs for Paris, not Caen, after the last roundabout which means you want the LEFT lane.

Follow the Autoroute towards Paris for several miles; it's free at this point. Signs for Evreux will come up for Junction 19. Here you have another of Val's very small tolls to pay, and then it's all free dual carriageway to Evreux.

If it's useful, there's a filling station on the D18E out through Sotteville which sells at Supermarket prices; it's the first one you see. The next ones are full price!!

Have saved these directions. We did travel through Rouen many years ago but it was the miiddle of the night with no taffic and kids were asleep so we didn't find it too much of a problem. Towing a caravan in the middle of a BH afternoon with 2 tired kids will be a bit different and we'll need all the help (and patience!) going. Stating to wonder if we're completely insane, lol!

   I  did  this  run  in  June ,   turning  off  just a  couple of miles short  of Chartres.  Did it in  4.5 hours   at  a leisurely  amble.  I'm doing  again Sat.14th   but putting  my foot down a bit more  ( traffic  &  wife allowing).

I wish we had used the toll road from Calais to Rouen.  We went the hard way and drove through small villages (do not on any account do through Ebrueve (dodgy spelling sorry) as we did).  Don't think they have ever seen 1 caravan let alone 2 in convoy going through the never ending narrow part pedestrian roads, thanks to the sat nav.  Has put me off driving in France!

That's sounds like it was awful for you. We've already decided to use the tolls on this section of the journey cos I'll probably be driving on Sunday to give OH a rest, and have only ever towed once before, and that was over here. I might add that I have driven in France before even if it was a few years ago.

There isn't a toll road from Calais to Rouen or from Rouen to Chartres.  The toll section ends at Abbeville which is much further north.  You just need to follow the A28 autoroute (non-toll) from Abbeville to Rouen,  Negotiate Rouen however you will - but we never have problems, and from them on just follow the N154.  Evreux (if that's where you mean) is by-passed completely by the N154 - you shouldn't need to touch the town itself at all.  The N154 then continues right down to Chartres via the Dreux ring-road (don't go into Dreux either).  At Chartres I think it's 'optional' whether you take the by-pass and go around to the south of the town, and then come back in to the municipal site, or go through the town (which is straightforward if you stick to the N154).

Val A's route is the route we went until the sat nav turned us off through Ebreuve before we got to Evreux.  I should not have said it was a toll road.  Up til that point it was not too bad following the green signs but when we came back using autoroutes and toll roads it was better..
