Hi, for your trip to France you will need the following docs: Driving licence(s) (and paper copy(s) if photo on licence),Car reg (log book), car insurance, MoT if applicable,GB plate if not on your car no. plate, beam benders, warning triangle, first aid kit, spare bulb kit, high viz tabbart x no. of persons, fire extinguisher. The last 5 items need to be easily accessible. Don't think the warning square is required in France, but check to be sure!!

Again, please don't be 'sensitive' about this, but there's just so much misinformation out there. It is NOT law, therefore you do NOT 'need' either a fire extinguisher (I live here and don't carry one), or a first-aid box, nor do you 'need' a hi-vis vest for every passenger to satisfy the laws here. I do agree it's a great idea, but it isn't law. You MUST carry a hi-vis for the 'résponsable'; that is to say the person that will be exiting the vehicle in a case of emergency, onto the roadside. This is the ONLY item that you need ready access to. Mine's in the floor panel under my feet in the Mégane. You'll see lots of french cars with them wrapped around the driver's seat, or in the map pocket.
If you carry either a first-aid kit or a fire extinguisher and you fail to use them if needed, then you may find yourself being prosecuted under 'Good Samaritan' laws here in France.
If you're not towing, then one warning triangle is ok. If you're towing, then you'll need three. Do a search on here if you're unsure as to the reasons why you need three. It does make sense, I assure you.
All documents must be originals (no copies). The gendarmes are not interested in your MOT certificate. They're interested ONLY in your ID (licence), your insurance, and whether the vehicle is yours (V5).
