Hi,has anyone taken there dogs to france on holiday if so how did you get on Info please.

Lots of people do it. You will need to prepare your dog well in advance for vaccinations for a passport and you have to visit a vet in france to get the passport stamped and your dog treated before you can get back to uk.

If your dog doesn't have a passport you need to see your vet.

It is all very easy but the procedure has to be followed rigourously.

I haven't done it before - only got a dog 8 weeks ago but am hoping to take her next summer.
Your dig needs to be microchipped then have rabies jab. Documentation all needs to be in order and you have to go to a vets whilst away. You can find all details on the defra website. I would also suggest talking to your vet!

mine left before the pets scheme came out .we had papers to return in 1999 we returned in 2000 . but had left in 99. she goes out just about every year. about 25 quid to see the vet in spain before we return. the vet knows blacky well now. the rabies jab is now lasting 3 yrs so its not expensive . visit your vet .chip jab . another jab , blood test . then off you go .cant come back for 6 mnths ideal . or wait 6 mnths here . better to go away for winter. mine spends 6 mths here 6 mnths abroad ,she loves the travelling. cheers alan.

I hate to keep banging on about this but we had such a terrible time... plse be aware of Pine Processionary caterpillars (Jan Feb March and April)  they can be lethal to dogs...look up on internet They are in most of europe  where there are pine trees but not yet the UK

No, always leave ours at home with family (or a kennel as a last resort). Trying to plan days out that include a dog would be too difficult. It would be like taking an elderly relative with us!

We do two trips a year, totalling about ten weeks so there's no way we'd leave pooch behind. She's four now and has travelled with us almost since we had her. She's a great way of getting to meet people too. OH often goes off with her and comes back to tell me he's met some nice people and asked them round for drinks.

Does any one know of a vet around Dunkirk that would do the necessary before our return, please??

There are five listed in the french yellow pages.  google" pages jaunes"  put veterinaire where it says "quoi" and dunkerque  in the " ou" bit then you'll see the list with addresses and phone numbers. Remember you can't come home till  at least 24 hours after seeing the vet but no more than 48 hours after seeing them
