Hi,

We are travelling to Ireland (for the first time) to visit family near Kilkenny.  Can anyone recommend any campsites in this areea or Wexford or Waterford please?  We are just 2 adults with 2 dogs and prefer quiet and smallish if possible.

Any help greatly welcomed.  Many thanks!

St Margaret's Beach is handy if you're using one of the Rosslare services.

I agree with above for staying near the Ferry.    There are 2 sites in Kilkenny.  One is just outside the town but suffers from road noise and needs updating.  Nore Valley at Bennettsbridge is quieter but is more suited to families.

River Valley or Hidden Valley in Wicklow are both well kept sites.  Moat Farm at Donard might suit but there are no CL type sites in Republic of Ireland.

Can only echo the previous 2 posts - all the sites mentioned there are fine. There are also 2 decent sites (Caseys and Bayview) in Waterford which is still close to both Kilkenny and Rosslare.

Personally I wouldn't stop in Wexford even though it's close to the ferry - Wicklow, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford are much more interesting.

Also, The Apple http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=3094 in Tipperary, although a little farther from Rosslare, might be just what you're looking for ? It's small & peaceful, cheap, only 35 miles from Kilkenny, close to the Rock of Cashel and lots of other historical / cultural stuff. EDIT - Just read in the smallprint no dogs allowed !

Yes the Apple would suit very well and inexpensive.    We spoke to the owner this year and he sometimes takes dogs depending on what is growing at the time on the farm.

If you are interested phone him and discuss the matter with him rather than just dismiss the site.   He is very approachable.

Thanks for this.  Am looking into all these sites but the Apple sounds ideal, if they take the dogs.

Will ring the owner and see what happens.
