You know - try as I would I just couldn't make the Rosyth ferry stack up.
The first problem was cost. I generally spend just over £300 in fuel on my holiday. That's Aberdeen to Dover, two weeks travel in France and return. A short crossing booked well in advance cost about £50 return this year. Rosyth was coming in at around £1000 just for the crossing! I would still have spent about £150 in petrol.
Then there's timing. With a fortnight off I like to drive down on Friday night and cross on Saturday morning to get as much time as possible 'in country.' Rosyth timings seemed strange and would have involved either less than two weeks in France - or altering my holidays which would have imposed on other people at work.
Other people may have more money or more flexible timings than me and might be able to make it work, but it doesn't for us.
