We used Plymouth to Roscoff, 8 am crossing  and then three hours to Southern Brittany , Camping De La Baie- great site, right on the beach. Our kids are 13 & 11 and had a great time with good weather.

We also had 2 dogs with us .

I would really recommend the beach/tidal lake at La Letty. Camping du Letty is actually on the beach, it comes highly recommended, but we have not stayed there ourselves, we were a little further north at Orangerie de Laneron near  Quimper.

We use Plymoth-Roscoff or Portsmouth-St Malo when we go to Brittany. We live up by Edinburgh and by the time we've driven down to the south we really don't want to be going all the way along to Dover too, then back along through France! We would have to stop for an overnighter somewhere anyway so we just do it on the ferry and get a cabin. Yes, it costs more but it saves us a great deal of driving time and hassle.

Brittany has a lot of coastine btw, so there's a lot of beaches as well as cliffs and coves. What kind of campsite do you want?

We used Plymouth - Roscoff last year out and St Malo - Portsmouth back for a two week holiday at Ty Nadan. Had a cabin on the way out overnight as hence the fact it cost far more than this year's three weeks in the South with a Dover - Calais crossing.

Roscoff is really easy to get away from as it's so small. Ty Nadan a great activity site with river running through site but 15/20 minutes from beaches
