in Supermarkets - as in many other situations - first watch and learn from others, you would have seen them weighing the loose produce, otherwise buy the pre-packed stuff - or go to the markets and point and smile a lot
go back - enjoy - and try to speak at least a little bit of the language - and throw in a few Bonjours and s'il vous plaits
we tend to stick to France and Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark and Netherlands - purely because of distances involved - we usually go for about 3 weeks only,
can't get as far as Spain, and Portugal and Italy would take us months the way we travel
