Hi, we're starting to look around for next year.

We like the look of the Ardeche but can't seem to find a site. Has anyone been to Soleil Vivarais as I can't seem to find any reviews for it?

If you can recommend any others I'd be grateful.

Thanks

Not sure if it's the sort of site for you but we have just had 13 nights at Le Clapas in Salavas across the river from Vallon. Quiet, excellently run. I posted a review last night but probably not up yet.

Thanks Mark, I'll take a look.

We went to Soleil Plage (Dordogne) a couple of years ago and were looking for something similar. More than enough acitivities for us but a bit more to do if our daughter decides to come. We have even considered returning to SP but would rather go somewhere new really.

We booked a site this year based on there being just me and hubby then our daughter decides she's coming after all.

Hi adandemsmom
I take you got back from Les Peupliers safely?

Just nudging this back up to the top as we're also interested in the Ardeche for next year.

Can anyone recommend a good quality site for me with no more than 250 pitches in the Ardeche? Currently looking at L'Ardechois or La Plaine, but there aren't any recent reviews of L'Ardechois and nothing on La Plaine.

Thanks for any help...

Hi Oliver! Yes we did get back safely thanks and take it you did too? We missed having you all next to us after you'd left.

We're going round the houses atm I'm afraid. We've also looked at the 2 you mention and now Em's thrown a spanner in and said that if she comes she'd like to go back to SP

Looking at sites in the Ardeche we're finding it hard to find one that's just right. They all seem too quiet, too active or in the wrong place.

Some years ago I took a school group away with Acorn Venture to the Ardeche. The site was good - 5 minute walk to river, quite quiet. I think it was called La Beaume ?

I know this thread is a little out of date now, but OliverDay was asking about L'Ardechois.  If it's the one at Vallon Pont D'Arc (there's another on the River Eyrieux further north), then to me, it's as near to Les Peupliers/Soleil Plage as you'll get.  We went there many times with our sons when they were smaller, and we've been back for re-visits since.  I still use my 'loyalty' L'Ardechois keyring for my caravan keys, and it has great sentimental value!!!  Silly I know, but.....

The site has great riverside access, pitches are good and access is easy.  There's plenty of shade, but some sunnier areas too.  The main toilet block is 'state of the art' and kept immaculately clean.  There is a good shop and take-away, the restaurant was excellent value when we stayed there, and it's walkable distance into Vallon Pont d'Arc.  We stayed there one year with our teenage sons and several of their friends, and all of them enjoyed it very much indeed.

The river is great at that point (opposite Le Clapas, mentioned above) with small rapids, deeper bits for swimming, and a boat launching ramp.  We spent many happy hours body-boarding on polystyrene boards, through the rapids.  We boarded right down to the Pont d'Arc one day, and met our friend there for a picnic lunch!  The pool complex doesn't have a slide or anything fancy - but this is made up for by the river, which is great.  Just be warned, though, that after rain it does rise very quickly and then like most French rivers can have a very strong current.

You do pay a premium on price, though, but it does come down significantly towards the latter part of August.

Thanks Val, That is the correct L'Ardechois in Vallon. I normally wouldn't have any hesitation about a Castel site it is just that there haven't been any recent reviews on this site. What I have read elsewhere suggest that the service at the restaurant is poor but being changed next year.

We have driven past the site many times as we have stayed at Les Ranchisses on quite a few years. As my children will be 13, 16 and 17 next year (if the 17 year comes) we are having to look for something that they will be interested in.

adandemsmom - Yes we also got back safely and hope we get neighbours as nice as you again next year.
