Hi All

New to the site, first posting and need help.  We've been Tent campers for a couple of years and have progressed to a caravan.  Visited France for the first time this year (Normandy) and now feel confident to venture further afield.  Can anyone recommend a good site for a two week holiday (pref not too large and noisey) with a pool in the south of France, preferably near St Tropez or that area.  EHU essential and large pitches suitable for awnings and sunbathing.  We have two children 14 and 9 who are easily entertained by a pool, fishing and sun. Any help appreciated as I've been advised to book early for a good site.

Kindest Regards

Audrey

We stayed at a site at La Croix Valmer some years back, not far from St Tropez. It was a short walk from small beaches.

See review on here (not done by me), but I agree with them.

Have you considered not staying near St Tropez as it is my experience that the pitches right in the south on the coast are usually relatively small, especially compared with Normandy. You could go inland about 30km and get a great site with much bigger pitches and probably costing less.

Hi Pauline,  Yes we would consider looking into that.  Would appreciate it if you could point us in the right direction for some site ideas.  Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Regards,  Audrey

We went to Les Genets d'Or in Bagnols sur Ceze which is in the Gard region. Don't know how far from St Tropez, but about an hour from the coast. I know that some people from the site went to Marseilles from there, but I think Montpellier is much nearer.

The weather was fantastic. We went the last two weeks in August and had just one storm, during the night. The rest of the time the weather was 30+ and easily warm enough to sit out in the evening until 11.30 in only T-shirt.

The site has a pool, a restaurant, free wi-fi, and is directly on the river Ceze where you can swim, fish and boat. It is within about 1/2 hour of many other attractions, too. They had various sized pitches. As we went the last two weeks of August we did not have to book, but as we are going in high season next year, we have booked. It does have a website, but the website does not do it justice.

We have three children, 15, 13 and 11 and they thoroughly enjoyed it. We were the only Brits there for the whole two weeks, as the site is mainly occupied by Dutch people, but they were very friendly and, of course, can all speak excellent English.

Thanks Pauline, that sounds great.  I'll look it up and let you know how I get on.  Really appreciate the good detail.  It gives me hope that we'll go back to France and not suffer rain EVERY day.  What a nightmare that was, camping with a tent for two weeks with persistent rain. :~(

We spent two weeks this year at a site called Crois de Mouton at Cavalaire sur Mer which is about 12 miles from St. Tropez round the headland in the next bay. This is the third time we have stayed at this site as it is at the back of the town half way up the mountain and has wonderful views from the pitches, and is quiter than those down in the town itself like La Baie, yet has a small pool and snack bar etc.  The Cavalaire beach is sandy and long, and there is a small marina with yachts, and plenty of restaurants. If you go at the end of august the prices go down considerably, or get a ACSI card where you will only pay €15 max a night.

The west of StTropez tends to be quieter and prettier than the east, Cavaliere as mentioned is nice as are a lot of the small coastal towns around there. This year we stayed at Bormes Les Mimosas at Camping Du Domaine, no pool, but on the beach instead, a large foresty site, really nice. Pitches vary wildly at most sites in france, if you stipulate a large pitch etc or google earth the site you interested in and pick a pitch you can be ok.

We did notice a site this year whilst we were on the beach at Port Grimaud that looked like it was on the beach further round the bay, didn't get chance to check it out, maybe others know about it??

Oh and 2weeks of 30deg+ and glorious sun!! and wine at 2euros/litre from the vineyard!!......heaven.
