Just got back  from  3 weeks in France and  thinking  about  next year already!   (Found an  immaculate  municipal   in lower Normandy   that  still does everything   incvluding  EHU  for just  over  5 euros a night).

For  2011  we  are looking  for a small  site in the  Carcassonne area.   We   prefer  small sites  and  just  basic  facilities (EHU essential) ,   not looking  for  bar, pools,  etc.  Any recommendations please .  

also -  any   info on regional  flights  from UK  into  Carcassonne   ( or Toulouse)  -  OH  doesn't  drive and   doesn't enjoy    2 days  in the  car ,  I do enjoy the drive,  so   thinking  of  driving alone and  treating  her  to a flight

Hi Martin,

Just got back from 3 weeks in France myself. We stayed at Canet Plage for 14 nights. My daughter, along with my sister and her husband flew to Carcassonne.

I also live in Nottinghamshire. They flew from EMA with Ryanair. Just keep searching their website to see when the dates you need become available. The earlier you book the better the price. Take a look at their charges list first though. Because the price can soon shoot up depending on the type of credit card you pay with etc. 

Thanks -  we will start scanning   EMA in a couple of months time to look at Rynair for  next  August. I   will enjoy   a slow  drive  down with a   stop off.  Now checking out sites.

Ryan Air fly into Carcassonne from a number of airports in the UK including East Midlands and Liverpool.

BMI and Easy Jet fly into Toulouse - which is approx 2 hrs drive from Carcassonne.

Carcassone is 60 miles from Toulouse, never in a miliion years do you need 2 hrs to drive from one to the other.

I lived 22 years there and never needed more than an hour to do the trip.

I used to go windsurfing for the day from Touliuse to Narbonne, and even that drive didn't need 2 hrs.

Other "doable" airports for carcassone are Perpignan and Montpellier, although they're not as convenient as Toulouse..
