We are looking to take our tent to France next May.  We aren't members of the Camping and Caravaning Club but I have noticed they give discount on ferry crossings for members.  Does anyone know roughly how much the discount is and if it is worth joining.

Thanks

No basically! Lol

Although saying that we are members and book through them most times, this year on Dover-Calais crossing probably saved a fiver, an if your anything like me we book December for the following Aug, then usually change our minds about dates/campsites and end up paying £10 amendment fee

But saying that its good in the way, that its all paid for well in advance so we just need to take our spending money with us, I also like reading the brochure in the bath and planning where to go the following year

Discounts offered by the Clubs can vary tremendously from route to route, and even from week to week.  The Caravan Club had a very good offer around the time of the NEC Caravan Show last year, and again in February, where the discount was about 40% or even more for car and caravan crossings.  I don't know whether the Caravanning and Camping Club may have the same offers.

However, if you're only travelling with a car, then you can get some very good prices directly from the ferry operators on the shorter crossings from Dover.  At the moment Norfolk Lines are doing some good deals for cars.  Personally I wouldn't think that you're going to save the cost of joining if you're booking just one crossing, for just a car.

If you have friends who are members of the Caravanning and Camping Club - or the Caravan Club then ask them if they can do 'dummy quotes' for you - then compare this with the same crossing priced up on the ferry companies own websites.

We are members of the C&CC and they cannot compete with Norfolkline, I challenged them this year, "no sorry sir, can't come near that".

I just booked Hull-Zeebrugge with the Caravan Club for next summer and it came to £650 (twin axle caravan, club class cabin and all meals). The same crossing on P&O's website came to £735. The C&CC quote was similar, but the website wouldn't work properly at the time, so I booked with the CC.

We saved a similar around £100 last year, so definitely worth booking via the clubs if you're doing a longer crossing.

My C&CC year free membership has just ended, undecided whether to renew, although they have started to phone me, so maybe I will get an offer to return!, like blueexpo97 says, they could not match NorfolkLines offer of £58 return crossing for July this year, which I booked October last year for Car+Trailer using the NEC caravan show TEF04 promo code, kindly posted on here by Val if memory serves me right, apart from the "Camping Carnet" (CCI) and the monthly magazine and a slight saving on insurance for Tent/Kit and Trailer, I was not getting much out of the membership as I mostly go camping in France, and sort everything out myself.

Edit to correct NL promo code.

Certainly not worth it in my view. As Val says there are better short crossing (folkstone/dover) deals by buying direct. (as with pretty much everything else the clubs offer)
