After several years of continental camping, mainly France but also done Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland, we are now seeking advice again.....

Kids are getting older (will be 17 and 16 next year) and they have suggested that next year they want to do the Black Forest and Switzerland/Austria area again. I have to confess that like others have said, the sites in France do seem better set up than many in the surrounding countries.

Anyway, I seek recommendations for the Black Forest and Austrie/Switzerland for next year. Looking for good size pitches, fantastic toilets and proximity to a nice pool would go down well. Can take or leave sites with evening entertainment. More important is the overall quality of the site. We will be taking our spaniel with us.

We stayed near Innsbruck in Austria so somewhere different would be good.

Hopefully your experiences will assist us again.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

  hi ,  dickturpin

I cant help with Austria or Switzerland , but we had a lovely stay in  Belkenblick , in Staufen in the black forest, very clean site , small front room type bar , and a place to get decent grub ,not a restaurant , but not just a take away either. They have a small pool on site ,where you must wear a cap, but there is a great lido just outside the site with reduced entry fee for people on the site, there is pleny of  grassed area  around the pool , you could take a picnic . there is a footpath into Staufen, one way , along the river, and the other way takes you to Munstertal, ( I think thats the name ) and there is a chocolate factory on route!  But dont go in unless you actually  want half a ton of chocolate,  we were eating it for days. Frieburg a beautiful old town is very near by the local train , and the mountain Belken is worth a visit too, you can go up in the little cable car type thing. Restaurant at the top plus fantastic views. Lake Tittisee is another place worth seeing lots of cuckoo clock shops . Staufen itself is a lovely little town. Maybe you've already been this way , but worth a look if not,

                                            phil

Camping Itter always seems to get the vote on here, it is in the Tyrol and there are loads of lovely villages around. You can also get lift passes quite cheaply in the summer and they cover quite a few of the aforementioned villages opening up miles and miles of walks.

We have stayed at both of the above, and agree with the comments made.

I would add that both sites have LOTS of dog walks right from the site, as our two collies can testify.

How are you doing Snowy?

We have just bought a new caravan, leaving Swift and the owners club after many years.
