Has anyone stayed here: Camping Municipal Chibaou-Berria?  The one or two pictures I can see look really quite nice.  On my new cost cutting exercise I think we may try a municipal site here and there!

It does look good - and right in the middle of St Jean de Luz, too!  I haven't stayed there, or anywhere near by, but perhaps bumping this back to the top might bring along someone who has.

We stayed at a site just out of the town, on the edge of the sea. I put a review on here. Didn't know there was a municipal, I'll check it out.

I'm trying to picture where it is. On the A63 coming into St Jean from Guethary? I'm sure there's one around that area. The others all seem to be around Ascain, then some of the way to Hendaye.

Sorry I'm blithering away. My parents live just outside of the St Jean, I'll ask them next time I speak to them. Anyway it's a very very nice area and worth a holiday there :)

It's here

It's probably take around 40 to 50 mins to walk into the center of St Jean along the coast. But most of the campsites seem to provide bus services, it's a very nice walk tho. There's also several car parks in the town center. My fav is the train station one, it's free and a short walk thru a tunnel, turn left and you're nearly at the main square.

Saint Jean is a very safe beach, that has the benefit of being in a town with nice shops and cafes. Further up the coast is Hendaye beach, which is good if you want to jump waves for children who want to body board and novice surfers. Other direction of Biaritz you'll get much larger waves.

If you're there in August ask when the confetti evening is in the main square. They'll have some traditional music, then every one throws confetti at each other. At the end someone dresses up as a bull, with fireworks strapped to their head (really) and runs around the square. If you have young kids, it's a good time to grab them and stand somewhere safe. Everyone follows and it's a bit rough for ickle ones.

It certainly looks like its worth a try.  Soup Dragon, if you are chatting to your parents I'd be interested to know what they say about it.

Have a look at camping la rouletta, that is a nice site at St. Jean de Luz. Very reasonable Swimming, pool fishing, cafe. and well laid out.

I have stayed on camping la rouletta at St Jean de Luz three times ,when en route to Spain.

It is not a "bells and whistles" site, nevertheless I would give it high praise.
The swimming pool is state of the art and the site has it's own fishing lake. There is also a bar /restaraunt

The elderly French couple who run and own this site are charming and their son can speak good anglais if required.

The site fees are reasonably and, it is 1 minute drive to
Carrefour supermarket for food and fuel etc ,3 minutes to Urrrugne,7 minutes to St Jean du Luz.
