Bigbrian, can I ask which site you've booked please? We're all booked up for next year abut always interested in new sites and as our daughter will be 13 in 2012 anticipating she will need plenty to occupy her. We have looked at Sanguli or Cambrils Pk as they look ideal with the motorhome. Have you been to the area before?

Hi Savanne,

Yep, have been to Sanguli before - see my review- toilets spotless, security wander round of a night time- for no reason  ie noise etc,- i might add.

Food and  liquid refreshments not out of order with prices, and you can pick your own pitch, near to Salou centre, Port Adventura, caught local bus there, train up to Barcalona, which we did - just be prepared to fight for a seat, a la london underground . Yep, looking forward to it, and as always , book that ferry early .

With no kids to cater for, it just wouldnt make sense for us to pay that. So no.

Commercial sites charge as much as they can to make a profit ~ charges will mainly be related to location, facilities & time of visit. i visit lots of sites that suit me in Cornwall, where i can pay less than £15 per might out of the main season, however, in the main season i go abroad and have to pay more than double that. In the end site prices come down to basic economics supply & demand ~ u pays your money & take your choice; i would rather pay a few £'s extra for a site with the location & facilities i want at the time i want to visit, than pay less at a site that doesn't suit & then end up regretting it.

Me too particualary when the kids were younger.   If they are occupied and happy the holiday ends up being very relaxing for mum and dad.   When the kids were little we did smaller french sites where a play park and a pool tended to be the only requirements, then they hit early teens and the only sites they could be 'happpy' on included a football pitch of some sort.  Not actually that hard to find in France.  Then the older one stopped coming and the nephew came with our youngest one instead and besides the football pitch there also had to be lots of teenagers to make friends with and somewhere to hang out.  (NB if the teenagers were not English, but did speak English that made it even better!)

Finally for the first time I think we will be going without kids this year for our main camping trip.  Now we can choose cheaper sites and go out of the hols!!!   But not actually sure that we want too lol.

Yep - we normally pay about 40-60E/night for 4* sites in France... last year 65E/night in Italy for much smaller pieces of grass.

We are 2 adults and 2 children (who get charged as adults!) and we need pools with flumes, football pitch, evening shows for the kids and if poss an indoor pool. We also like the sites to have mini-golf, tennis courts etc.

Next year we will probably go a bit later than this year though as the price reduces drastically if you can go after 15th Aug.

I pay less than that for a top of the range 6 berth static, including covered terrace and heating. There is no way we would pay that sort of money for a pitch and on top of that you have your crossing, insurance, petrol and road tolls. In my book thats a rip off

I have just looked at that web site and they don't do high season from mid July to mid Aug which probably explains why you can get something cheaper. I would imagine the OP is trying to book for high season. Certainly we have to take our holidays between mid july to Mid Aug.

In Italy we paid 50e a night for camp site and to be honest I don't think it is too bad for your main holiday. I looked at booking a Siblu caravan for 3 nights in August in Brittany and they wanted nearly £600 now that is rip off!

We're paying about 50E a night for a Castels site (Massereau) in south of France but that's for 2 weeks in beginning of August with 2 kids.  It's pricey for camping, but that seems normal for the nicest sites in this period.  You can go so much cheaper if you're able to go outside mid-Jul to mid-Aug.

We justify it because it's a camping-with-kids holiday, so we don't eat out a lot, whereas if it was a couple holiday, we'd be eating out more, so we'd get a cheaper pitch but need more spending money.
