Well.......we drove to the very South of France, almost at the Pyrenees, last year and 1. it's a blooming long way and 2. it's very hilly in places.

We stopped at Dover, Evreux and Millau so I'd say that unless you want to have two VERY VERY long stressful days of driving, it might be worth adding at least one more stop each way.

We took the route Calais -Rouen-Evreux-Orleans-Bourge-ClermontFerrand-Millau-Beziers-Perpignan which completely negates the need to go anywhere near Paris, but does scale the heights of the massif central, which did climb fairly high at some points, but the cars and vans seemed to cope okay. Have you checked the maximum tow weight of your car/van and seen if the percentage is within accepted limits? There's a website you can check on if you aren't sure.
