OK, this is just an idea and I just want to know if I've missed something...

The wife wants to take this kids to DP next year - apart from the horrendous cost, I don't want to go because I HATE queues.

Now, they have, I believe, some Fasttrack queuing system but why can't they extend it so that, like a Tesco delivery, you book a 15 minute slot at each ride? You could do this on the website before you even arrive at the park.

So you turn up at that time and hopefully have a maximum time of 15 minutes to queue? They should know roughly how many people go through a ride in 15 minutes, so they can ensure they only have that number of people who can book that slot.

This is surely a win/win situation; we don't have to queue as much so are happier to go and, while we're not queueing, we can be in the shops and cafes, spending extra money, so the park should be happy.

Or am I missing something?

you pay extra on top for fast track I think.   Alton Towers does the same and really it is a rip off.

Queues were not that bad last time we went but it was outside school hols

There is a systen in place do do exactly that. Although it does not always work that quickly. We bought fantasy annual pass for 5 of us for 555 euros. This also invludes free parking. Went to dp 5 times, and paris twice that way got some good savings on Parking. Go early get on rides early. Dont go in afternoon its HELL !!

You dont pay extra for fast track you just get a ticket and come back at appropriate time and jump the larger queue but you do still have some queuing

You can fast track for free when the tickets are avaliable. We did not find the system helped us though. The fast track booths never seemed to be open.

If you stay in a disney hotel you can get into park two hours before gates open. Half the park is open and you can do rides without any queues (well that was the case in Feb). This was when we did most of our rides, we did shows and character meets most of the rest of the time.

Hubby bought a fast track pass for one day which let him sneak off and do all the big rides which our littles ones didn't want to do. Think it cost about £60 (but was worth it to keep him happy).

The fastpass system is available to everyone, however you can only have one active fastpass at a time. You go to the ride you want, and book your slot, but you can't book a slot on another ride until you have used that one.

The only way to get more than one at a time is to have a VIP fastpass, which you only get if you are staying in the castle club at the Disneyland Hotel, or a suite in one of the other hotels.

We always go to DLP in January, last year we got a fantastic deal, didn't pay for the kids and got a free dining offer, so full board for the price of B&B. Saved us an absolute fortune. Wrapped the kiddies up in skisuits (like the Europeans do) and kept warm with plenty of hot chocolate. All the rides were open and no queues at all midweek.

My family are going to Disneyland France next August. Wife, sons, daughter and grandchildren. We are camping fairly close. I am trying to get out of going. I do not queue for anything so is there anything else to do? Anything without a queue?
While they are away I could go to the nearest bar have a lovely meal, drinks and a nice quiet day with some change in my pocket. Am I boring or sensible?
Fred.

When we ( myself, hubby and sons 14 and 8 ) go on our camping breaks to Disney,we tend to "lose" hubby / dad after the first day lol

he doesnt mind doing one day but no more!

he tends to take the laptop to the Disney village ( wi fi in macdonalds and starbucks and possibly the sports bar?) to catch up on some work emails

and has food etc there

there's also val D'europe not far, with many shops and restaurants, sea life centre, gym etc

or jump on the train and head to Paris

Taking a laptop is a good idea. I could sit in the car park to save paying as well. Jumping on a train to Paris sounds the best.
Does anyone know the best excuses to give the wife, children and grandchildren for not going to Disney. We are camping at lacroix du vieux pont.
Eating frogs legs the day before and 'having a bad stomach'
Any photos of massive crowds to put them off? Headache? Falling down when playing with grandchildren and faining injured leg? Pulling coil lead off the car so it won't start?
Any better ones?
Fred.

How about just going? First time we took the kids to Disney my hubby was certain he'd hate ever minute of it, chuntered all the way there about how he was going to hate it, there would be queues, it was overpriced commercialised rubbish etc etc.

We got there and I swear that the Disney magic just got hold of him, just a little bit. It really is a wonderful place, if you let it. The kids' faces when they saw their favourite characters were more than worth all the queues and expense and he'd not have missed that for a minute. Some of the rides are really very well done, even for cynical old grown ups -It's a small world, Peter Pan and Pirates of the Caribbean, not scary, not fast particularly, but the detail is amazing. The shows are very good too, Animagique, if you go to the studios is a don't miss.

It's only one day out of your life, I don't see what the big deal is. Go with the mindset that everything will be expensive and it will be busy, then you won't be shocked, but just enjoy it for the sake of the kids and you never know, you might surprise yourself. ;-)

Ok you have convinced me. I must admit I will love to see the look on my grandchildren's faces. They will be aged 17 months, Two and a bit, Four (I will stay with her, best age?) nine and eleven. I have more grandchildren up to 21 years who are not going. I am sorry for being such a moan. Even I can put up with the tough side for the magic I hope to see.
All the best,
Fred.
