My question is, is there anything i should now about campin in Germany and is the any kit there i should be talking.

Also if anyone has any camp site recommendations the that would be great also.

Thank you all.

Richie

Germany is great for camping and caravanning. Quite a few campsites are on the edge of towns. As far as kit is concerned I can't see that you would need anything different from elsewhere in Europe. Trouble with recommendations is that Germany is such a large country you might need to narrow down the choice of area. I have several blogs on my website about Germany and I have submitted quite a few German campsite reviews here so it might be worth having a look at the sites on here.

Thanks David, we will be living in the north west off Germany but want to see as much of Germany, and indeed Europe, as possible.

riche, we go to Germany a lot and have done for over 30 years the last 7 years with the Caravan if you click onto my homepage above this post on the left hand side you can view where we have been to by trips and 2 pages of info on Germany.  Hope thid helps.  I envy you for moving to Germany, together with Austria they are my favourite countries.  Very clean, actually pristine, inhabitants are very friendly and helpful and appreciate if you try to speak their language although most speak very good English.  You will find Germany is cheapest country in Europe for food, eating out and most other items.

Hope this helps.

Good luck to you - plenty of good stuff in Germany. Whereabouts, roughly, will you be moving to? It's a long way from Bavaria to Baltic Brandenburg!  24

Thank you all for your help.

Paul we are moving to Bielefeld, but like i said we will drive almost anywhere. We drove for a day and a half to get to te south of france last year.

Our first trip will be in the easter holidays for a long week end. This is mainly to break the family in to camping.

If you want a weekend site nearby it might be worth having a look at Camping Lemgo which is not far from you. Lemgo is a lovely little town and you can walk/cycle round the old fortifications.

Also, Bielefeld is not far from the town of Hameln (Pied Piper and all that!). We've stayed on the site there by the river, but only in winter when the Xmas markets are on. Last year we took the bikes and from Hameln cycled quite a long way along the river (Weser I think it is, but not 100% sure on that). The town is lovely, a bit bigger than Lemgo, and has a walk guided by rat's pawprints on the pavements.

Hi Richie
Just noticed you are moving to Bielefeld soon. We are just along the road in Detmold, and used Camping Lemgo as recommended by David, when we came over Easter 2009 for a visit, prior to being posted here.
It's a nice little site, very German, lovely new toilet and shower block complete with ornamental geese! We often meet with Mike, who is a former squaddie who stayed in the area, and he is the campsite handyman. You can't mistake his pad on site, with his St George's flag proudly flying from his awning.....
You are coming into a lovely area, with great access to motorways to get you anywhere you want to go in Germany and beyond....
If you need any practical help or advise on all things German before you move, feel free to get in touch.
All the best and happy new year, Jonathan (Humberflyer)

We are waiting for our posting as husband has just got his comission and we have put in for two postings both in Guterslogh. We love camping and go to France for a few weeks every year so hopefully will be able to continue this although we would be open to camping suggestions in Germany. We lived at JHQ for a couple of years but didnt have the camping bug then!

Hi jwadd!!
As with Richie moving to Bielefeld, we are only along the road from Gutersloh (where you hope to be!)as well....
While we lived in the UK we too spent most summers camping in France, having covered most of the country, but now are enjoying exploring Germany. This summer we had a wonderful trip up to the Baltic coast, and were the only Brits in the whole area. Well worth a visit!
This June, we are heading for Sweden!
Greetings, Humberflyer.
