Just finding a bit of info for next years holiday to Royan
Is it easy to just travel down from the north were i live ,jump on a ferry to France ,and drive down to Royan stopping at maybe one campsite on the way with out pre-booking the site or the ferry?. Dont forget i am a first timer with my camper.

You dont need to book a campsite-but you certainly need to book a ferry!--if you just turned up at Dover in-say-July-& paid there & then the price would be horrendous--100s of Ģs!---book asap--either www.poferries.com or www.speedferries.com & the price will be less than Ģ100 return--if you aint sure of dates-give em a couple & you can amend later for a small charge--
If you are only staying overnight on the way, and you are travelling on French motorways, stop in a service area, called aire's. Some of them are small picnic table and toilet only areas, others are full blooded service areas. I havent found out where to tell which is which. I have a friend that journeys to Spain regularly with his van and this is what he does. French motorways may be expensive but their services leave ours on the blocks. You can even stop at one you like the look of, they are pretty frequent.

I have never used aires for a caravan, I have used them for a few hours at a time in a car, at night. I have never seen anything that would concern me about overnighting in one with a van, especially the big ones.
