Am looking for a campsite with direct access to the beach on the south west coast.  Have young kids so need a campsite that isn't too noisy at night.  Anybody got any suggestions? Would prefer 4 star is possible.  Have looked at Yelloh village campsites - anyone know much about Yelloh village?  Thanks.

I can think of 3, but they are all naturist campsites, would they be ok for you?

hello,

have you consider camping next to a lake, i found it a lot safer with kids then the sea and good fun.
We went to Biscarosse with loads of kids stuff, pools, lake and sea side a short drive away.

We stayed at Yelloh 'Les Grands Pins' at Lacanau. Direct beach access and good pool facilities for children. Does also attract a lot of younger people looking to surf too. It was a bit too 'all singing and dancing' for OH and I but then we don't have children and normally choose smaller sites but may be right up your steet. Not cheap though either.

Check out the campingfrance.com website which is the "official" France camping website with over 11000 sites in France. If you choose Aquitaine as the area it splits it into 5 areas with over 1000 sites. I suspect you may want Pyrenees Atlantique area which lists 172 sites or Landes which lists 256 sites. If you refine the search by "number of stars" it will start to list by 5 star (Landes) 4star (Pyrenees Atlantique) and down 3star, 2star etc. from there. A number of the sites have a direct weblink to give more detailed info.

If you see anything you particularly like you could ask in this topic for anyone who has been on that site.

Hope this helps and good luck with the search

Thanks for all your comments, really helpful.  Had already found Le Grands Pins but they can't fit us in - such a shame as it looks perfect.  Have been looking at thw campingfrance website.  Sometimes there's just too much choice!!

Kelly

http://www.le-tedey.com/

The campsite is directly onto a beach by the lake.

Perfect for children as there is a Curfew few and a patrol to ensure that noise levels are kept to a minumum and observed.

We do not have children but appreciate the needs of those who do and also love the idea that we can enjoy peace and quiet in the evening.

Children play happily all day round this site and can cycle around with out fear of cars, they must observe the 5k limit.

I would suggest you check this out.

there is another site up the road called the Talaris (very commercila, very noisy and the pitches are not a patch on Le Tedey.

We will be there this week, this wil be the 5th time we have been here it is beautiful and the facilities are immaculate!!!!!!

Squirell chops

I've just read your blog, your poor OH I empathise but I think Yelloh and Castells sites are targetting certain types of people, which is great.

Our rule of thumb is if its got lots of flags in the entrance, a pool - al singing and dancing avoid it!!!

Peace, quiet and back to nature is my style but there needs to be mix of both to cater for all needs.

Touch wood we have been very lucky with our choices. If you go 'on spec' as we often do, and start looking around 4pm you get a good impression of the site and have time to move on if you need to.

The funniest incident was in Brittany, we had visited several sites around Carnac and were losing the will to live, then we asked the local Gendarm in the village for directions to what on paper seemed to be a lovely forest loaction....he did look at us very strangely, so I should have read his body language. We arrived on site set up in a quiet spot, but just as we got 'sorted' we heard music, loud Europop, I used the excuse to go to the shower block to investigate....they were setting up a stage ??!! I am not kidding it was like a camping version of Benidorm (TV series) they were parading the staff on stage and handing out Sangria cocktails (Sangria in France!!!!!).......we went out to eat, came back late by 08:00 we were leaving, awful..so I don't always nail it. We did find a lovely site next to a Lake in Trinite Sur Mer....we have never been back to Brittany.

Bit closer than Aquitane but why not try the Ile de Re - it has got some smashing sites with beach access and it is one of the sunniest places in France as a rule.

We've used Camping Interlude a couple of times and it has direct access onto a lovely beach which shelves very gently so it is very safe for kids (if I remember beaches in Aquitance usually shelve very steeply and you can be in deepish water a few yards out).

Settles down fairly early in the evening - the only noise I can remember is the night the "kids club" put on a show.

Good standard restaurant on site plus take away and you're only five minutes in the car to the supermarket and indoor market in the town,

Camping Interlude

Edit: The link to their website from the reviews page above doesn't work so here is the correct link.

Il de Re is lovely, I have fond memories of St Martin and its beautiful harbour, and the 'Rasta' donkeys grazing on the out skirts of the town.
