We're planning to follow our dream and head off on an extended motorhome touring holiday to France and Spain for 2 years. 

PROBLEM!  Has anyone out there done anything similar and if so, what arrangements did you make for holiday/travel insurance?  

With the standard annual travel insurance policy, we'd both have to fly back to the UK for a day every time the single trip maximum number of days had expired (usually 120 days max).

There are longer term policies out there but all the ones I've looked at are limited to 18 months maximum stay.

Next big problem - I'm 64, he's 63.  We're worried that no-one will take us on and that we'll end up heading off into the sunset with fingers crossed, with just our EEC health cards handy and hope the worst doesn't happen....  

You need to check what your residential status will be.

Will UK still regard you as uk domiciled? If not there may be pensions issues and if you are considered domiciled in one particular foreign country then reciprocal health care may not apply until you are pensionable age - Spain for a starters.
