Hi
Can anyone recommend a good campsite near Vendee with clean showers/toilets, bar on site and close to beach. We are looking to go end July/beginning of August for 2 weeks - there will be two couples going taking a tent each.
Many thanks

I have stayed in lots of campsites in the vendee, one i think is lovely is Les Dunes

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7340

It is near to the beach. However there are three les dunes all within 20 miles so this one is at Longeville. The one at Bretignolles is mainly mobiles but has a fantastic location behind the dunes. There is also the Les Dunes at sables D'olonne is also meant to be nice.
Another one we liked was zagarella, again within walking distance of the beach.
One of my favourites was le littoral at Port Bourgenay, i also like Ocean D'or at jard sur mer.
Wouldnt recommend Acapulco or Les Genets at Jean de Monts as not really set up for camping, more mobiles. However St Jean de monts itself is really quite nice.
Good luck in your search.

We stayed a few days at Les Brunelles between Longeville sur Mer and Jard Sur Mer on our way down to Royan. The new toilet block was superb and the pool area one of the biggest and best we have come across. Pitches are generous and the site is within easy walking distance of the beach.

P.S It is a Camping Cheques site although not much good to you in July/August for reviews see here

We've gone to Camping aux ecureuils http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=10416 two years in a row now. It's a lovely site, basically directly on the beach which is absolutely beautiful and huge - it never feels packed.
The site is very nice and friendly with modern and clean facilities. There is a bar and a shop selling takeaway food and essentials, a super U and small resort is a 10 minute walk away.

Lovely place!

if the bar isnt that important try Camping Le Ragis, Challans, they do have 'home grown' entertainment every night though, in a very french style, even bingo now (we played last year and as its in the barn, just take a couple of bottles of wine and some snacks, cos it lasts all night LOL) and dont forget the free welcoming drinks every sunday lunchtime with the owners under the trees outside their home (they live on the site)

pitches are very large and many would take two tents easily!

St Jeans is full of campsites so you wont be stuck for choice and plenty of english type large commercial sites to choose from
