Hi,  Just started to put away a few quid for the hol's and am wondering has any been camping in italy and is it very expensive? We normally drive to France so i can take all the kids favourites and the usual non perishables but have decided to fly this year so im a bit in the dark as to how much will be enough!  we are going to Norcenni Girasole and staying for eleven nights, we have hired a car and paid for that already so its just really spends for food/drinks/ice cream etc, the kids are only eight and five so no big expense there, just really wondering what other familes allocate for their hol spends?

Grocery shopping is no more expensive than here unless you want breakfast cereals and 'English' food. The site shop is more expensive than the COOP in Figline so as you have a car, a trip there would be beneficial.    Unfortuately, having got rid of the kids years ago, we are not on a budget so are not able to help with fund allocation.

Just live on the ice-cream, it's gorgeous and cheap!  Seriously - I don't think you'll find it much different to France in general , perhaps 10% more, though eating out 'a la carte' we found to be expensive, though fixed price deals were quite good.  We thought bread was dear for anything but a bog standard loaf,  drinks in cafés can be dear too depends where you are.

Usually the most expensive thing about camping in Italy is the campsite fees other costs seem very similar to elsewhere. Like with any European country food tastes, especially for children, are different so take the things that might be difficult to find like cereals and squashes otherwise enjoy the difference.

Thanks, Im from Dublin so am used to paying over the odds for just about everything but whenever i say the words campsite in Italy to anyone I get the "oh thats going to cost a fortune" remark, was getting a bit worried.

Yes I do think its a bit more expensive.  The campsite fees tend to be just pitch & elec then they charge a daily rate for every person (not pitch & 2 people like most sites) - we went to Bella Italia last year and it was 65 euros a night for 4 of us and my son was free!  Food shopping seemed a touch more expensive than France and wine certainly was but you could get a nice bottle of Prosecco for about £3.50.  To be honest we have found the biggest pinch to be the position the Pound has been in for the last couple of years which would obviously be the same Italy or France but as you are from Dublin I guess that doesn't affect you.

We tend to spend around £800 for two weeks  - dunno what we spend it on though as we didn't eat out all that much last year as it was a bit of a bun fight to get a table in the restaurants.

You got a bargain! I've paid that for an espresso opposite St Mark's.

Seriously, you can pay an awful lot of money near the tourist sites, or on the flash beaches. It does pay to search around on back streets &c.. Then again, the same applies in big French towns, probably most countries. In contrast, we always found food and drink on camp-site restaurants very reasonable.
