We went some years ago and anywhere between Koblenz south to Rudesheim has lots of camp sites especially between Boppard and Oberwessel on the west bank. The area does get busy in peak weeks but you should be ok between your dates.

We have stayed a few of times on the Rhine. Once at Boppard, right on the river and a couple times in Rudesheim. One thing to be aware of it you are camping in the Rhine Valley is that there are roads and railways down both sides of the river which can cause a lot of noise. I don't mind the barges but trains running every, what seemed at 10 minute intervals, does get on your nerves a bit! At Rudesheim the river widens out so there tends to be less noise. Apart from that it is very spectacular.
