Hi all,

We are going to France for a weeks camping in August, this will be our first time.

I can't make up my mind between Camping Penboch in Britanny and Lac d'Orient.

Apart from my significant other, we have two 14 year olds (daughters friend) and a 4 year old girl. 

ANyone got any experience of either of these sites and got any suggestions.

Also, feel free to put a spanner in my works by suggesting other sites.

What are the local attractions like, are they far, is there a supermarket nearby? Also is there public transport into Troyes or even Paris for that matter?

Also, is the restuarnt expensive?

We're going tp Lac for 3 weeks Aug/Sept.After reading reviews,and the fact it takes camping cheques sounded just right for us.Also having the lake is great!

  Jill, can you swim and use a dinghy in the lake??

As well as the pizza place outside the campsite, (overlooking the lake, lovely for a morning coffee) there's another restaurant within a few hundred metres. When we popped in there was a large party of French people having some sort of celebration meal, they all looked very happy. it looked to be more upmarket but they were still happy for us to stop for coffee.

There's a larger town nearby, Vendeuvre, with shops, restaurants etc and lots of other pretty villages and towns. Bar le Duc was nice, Essoyes was beautiful and none of it was particularly thronged with tourists as Brittany tends to be in summer.

Take a look at the area on google earth to see what you think...in fact compare both, it might help you to decide.
