We stayed here overnight last year and its a fantastic site, best showerblocks I've ever seen, they even collect your rubbish daily from your pitch!   Larochette village nearby looked really nice too - we would definitely return for a longer stay

Cheapest fuel around, too, at the moment, apparently.

We travelled through Luxembourg in 1976 in a rented Motorhome, and stayed at three sites.  It is a lovely country, very small, and the city of Luxembourg itself has some great shopping!

It's not too far, I wouldn't have thought, for a week - but perhaps cold, still in April.

Gillychick - you can have a look at 'historical' weather records for Luxembourg, - just select the month, and year, and have a look backwards. Select the month each time you go back a year, or it default to January!  First time I had a look, I thought 'Blimey, it is cold'!

You can use the website  for almost anywhere in Europe.  Some people have commented that it isn't accurate, but I had a look at areas we've been, in the months we've visited, and it seems OK to me.  As least it gives you an idea if you need waterproofs and fleeces with a hat to sleep in, or a bikini!

We went from Hook, spent a half day and night in the Ardennes then got to Luxembourg Ville before lunch the next day. It's free motorway all the way. I suspect that many people on here would go from Dunkerque or Calais and make it easily in the one day.

Glad to hear that you're trying somewhere other than France - I avoid it myself.

There's a V. nice site (Camping Kockelscheuer) on the outskirts of Luxembourg city. Longish walk, to city centre, but there's a bus from outside the site.

IMO, while Luxembourg is nice, there's not a lot to it. Let me recommend that you travel on another hour or two into Germany and visit either Saarburg (3 good sites, good walking area, good food/drink and supermarkets) or Trier (touristy, but nice with rail links to other parts of Germany)

capt lighting i agree with what your saying about going abit further but i think we plan to dothat next year as i only have a week off work i dont want to spend it all int he car if you know what i mean ............ 2 years ago we did france germany and belgium over 2 weeks and had a fantastic time and are hoping to do the same next year ............. its just a short holiday we are looking for this year ... the original plan was to just go to calais on the outskirts as we have been to france about 7 times but never actually seen anything round the calais area but i have since been told it doesnt actually offer a lot round there ............. its so hard finding a destination ..........

On the same basis (that we'd been going through Calais for decades but never even had a look around) we stayed there for a couple of days - interesting art gallery, nice parks (with outdoor exhibitions), many restaurants, nice beaches and/or cliffs nearby .... probably a better experience than staying in Dover but to make a week of it I think you'd need to go a little farther.

The greater Lille area (Roubaix, Tourcoing &c) has all sorts of treats including real ale - we were kept well occupied for four days - in February!

Well, if you do fancy staying in Luxembourg, but want a day trip into Germany, then you can get a train / bus to Saarburg or Trier. (There's a biggish TOOM supermarket a few hundred yards from the station in Saarburg, and a LIDL a few hundred yards across the bridge from the station)

Have a good trip.

We stayed near Echternach a few years ago, it's somewhere I'd been to with my parents when I was a child (from Holland where I lived then); it is a really nice area and we thought it was very good for walking too (don't know if you're into that). There is not an awful lot to see, although I'm no authority on that, we didn't go into the main town of Luxemburg.

Fuel is cheaper there of course, last year on our way from Holland via Belgium into France we weren't that far from Luxemburg, so deviated just to fuel up, it was just 1 Euro per litre then!

I was going to mention earlier that camping was cheaper than France/Belgium - indeed most things were, even in the capital city .....

Where are you going? When we were in the S & W (and Luxembourg Ville) we found most folks spoke French - there are three other official languages but we didn't come across them! Have fun.

We too have stayed near Ecternach, but just across the river bridge in Germany at Camping Freibad Echternacherbruck.
I know it is a CC site but do not know if it is ASCI.
A very nice area for walking and sightseeing.
