Help!  Have emailed loads of campsites in the South of France but always seems my tent and my friend's caravan are too big.  Does anyone know of a campsite, ideally on the coast that accepts big ones??  I have a Norfolk Lake (7m x 4m) and my friend's caravan is 7.7m x 2.16m.  Thanks

Whereabouts in the South of France are you looking - Riviera, middle bit around the Camargue/Rhone 'delta', or western end of the Mediterranean down towards Spain.

Which sites have you already emailed?

Ideally around Marseille coast - the Provence Cote D'Azur region or Languedoc Rousillion.  Have been rained on for the last 3 years so heading for sunshine!

Have emailed Yelloh Village campsites down there, Camping St Pons, Camping International, Camping Close-Therese, Camping Dragonniere..........

I presume you're wanting a pitch each, rather than one for the tent and the caravan!   The problem is that the nearer to the coast you get the smaller the pitches become.  When is it you want to go?  To me your outfit isn't that big!  Our caravan is almost 7 metres long by 2.3 metres wide, then we have an awning or sunshade 2 metres wide, making us almost as big as your tent footprint, and we've absolutely no problems fitting on most pitches and some with absolutely loads of room to spare!  We've always been able to manage to park the car on the pitch, and have room for our loungers, chairs and table, and other bits and pieces like a washing whirlygig, etc.  Is it, perhaps, that the site is full anyway (possible if you're looking for peak season) rather than just doesn't have pitches which they consider are big enough.

Camping Les Mimosas near Narbonne advertises pitches up to 140m sq, Camping Beauregard Plage at Marseillan Plage up to 150m sq,  Les Cascades at Bagnols sur Ceze up to 150m sq, Domaine de Gaujac up to 130 m sq, Camping Val de Cantobre (lovely site) up to 150m sq, all at the western end of your search range.  On the eastern side of the Rhone (Provence and the Var) there don't seem to be any sites with larger pitches - certainly not in the few books I've got to hand which give sizes.

Thanks very much for that.  We want to go 23rd July to 6th August so think it is a case of being too late for high season.  I didn't realise everything got booked up so early!!  And yes, it does appear nearer the coast the smaller the pitches.  Learning lots about this camping lark!

Will try the ones you suggest, much appreciated.

Absolutely peak weeks - so very likely that popular sites down by the coast will be full already.  However, a week or two later (ie after 15th August) it will be very different and lots of sites will have free pitches.

If you can change your dates then that may help enormously with the choice of sites.  I've just looked on-line and Val de Cantobre doesn't have any free pitches at all for 24/25/26 July, but guess what - plenty from 16th August!  Les Mimosas appears to have a 'normal' emplacement still available, however.

By the way, we haven't been to all those sites, they're simply the ones from my book which mention larger pitch sizes.

We stayed at Camping Le Neptune at Grau D'Agde two years ago in our Outwell Idaho XL tent with porch extension and still managed to fit the car and a fold out table and chairs and rotary drier plus 5 camping chairs on our pitch.

Thank you very much.  Have emailed those suggested and fingers crossed.  Struggling to change dates as have a good friend's 40th right in the middle of August otherwise I would just email saying 'tell me what you've got!'

Thank you for your time and I'll let you know if any come good.

xx

Sounds like you want the Etoile d'Argens at St Aygulf near Frejus.

They have 100, 30, 180 & 250 square meter pitches. I think our 7x3.5 meter tent was ok on a 100 sqm one.

They have a little boat to get to the beach and a lovely pool with a proper lifeguard.

They're lovely people too.

Liz
