Hello we are staying at Le Logis du Breuil near Royan in August for 10 days and wanted to stay in the Loire Valley for 3 nights on the way back to Calais, can anyone recommended a good site with perhaps some waterslide for our 3, 7 and 10 year olds

I posted a recommendation for Etang de la Breche but it has disappeared. I put the website address on and for some reason UKCS does not seem to like it and hence the post has gone. Thats probably why Jusy in the last post simply referred to the site without any details because he/she obviously read my post before it was deleted by webmaster or whoever. I do find this annoying and quite frankly childish on the part of UKCS. What is wrong with people saying check out a campsite website and telling someone the name of the website for heavens sake?

They do prefer a link to UkCamp reviews.
Cant help with your other questions, sorry.

I think it's a way of ensuring that campsites are on this website. They run the site so we play by the rules. It's fine by me and will encourage people to leave reviews etc

If you find the site, on another tab or another open window, on the campsite search, then go to the review page for that site, then copy the URL.  Type in the name of the site in your post, and highlight it, then using the link icon above, bring up the dialogue box, and paste your URL address into the top section of the box and it will appear as a named link - Etang de la Breche.  It means people reading the post can see the name of the site, but they are directed via the Reviews page, where the site website link is given anyway - and they can then go to look at the website if they still fancy it after reading the reviews.

It's just a way of trying to ensure that people write reviews, and that others are then able to see them.  I try to do it, but admit that sometimes I forget and just type in the site name, and sometimes (if the site isn't listed here then I provide a direct link).

I imagine UKCS gets paid for links though to the campsite if it goes via the review page. However, better moderation would be a gentle reminder to include the review link, or an edit to change the link from the direct link to the review link.

I can assure you as a campsite owner that there's NO payment to UKCS for enquiries via. their links. The reasons are simple and clear and broadcast often enough. It's to allow reviews to be read, rather than just directly linking to a website.

This site is massive, run by two guys on a part-time basis along with one (that I know of) other moderator.

If you don't like how it's run, then there are other forums. Though none with the reviews section that UKCS has.

I think, perhaps, the moderators/webmaster ought to publish a 'How to attach a link to text in your post' - not everyone knows, although most people (though not all) can copy and paste a website address directly into a post.  It always looks nicer if the site is actually named and the link hidden 'behind' the text.

I agree, with Floydfan, though, this site is the best there is for information/reviews/and just general friendliness!

Camping Etang de la Breche Thank you Val I hopefully have just managed my first hyperlink thanks to your instructions.

I agree that it would be good to have something from Webmaster as I tried a search for hyperlink but didn't find anything.

hi guys, the rules are clear, and stated at the top of every message box form "Important: When posting details of a camp site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read or left!"

If you need help in how to post a link, then please see the threads on http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_forum_topics.asp?ForumID=5 , however the method of linking is the same whether you are linking to the listing on here, or direct to the website.

We frequently remind people to link to the listing on threads, when a direct link has been posted. It's only when this is ignored by a poster that the post might very occasionally get removed, and even then this only happens due to our time constraints with the thousands of posts to check. Usually we just post the reminder and correct the link.

As Floydy says, we don't get paid for links (if only) it's simply so that people remember to leave reviews in the site database, when they recommend sites on the forums, instead of ignoring this facility, as the reviews section benefits everybody not just users of the forum section.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Ian

Well done.  I'm glad my limited instructioned helped.  I thought it was a major discovery when I first learned how it was done!  I always think Etang de la Breche looks better than http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5243 - and does tell people the site name.

Thanks Ratty/Ian for your replies, too, which I'm sure will lead to many more people being able to create their own links.

You learn something everyday! We are off soon, and will have to review sites on return, just so I can have a go! Agree with Val, it's much nicer to see the name of the site being recommended, saves all the faff of following a link to a site you are totally familiar with, and encourages you to read reviews of unfamiliar ones.
