Meantime in Sunny spain for a month in a lovely studio overlooking the mountains and Med not far from Malaga (1 hour)

£89 per week (special deal) (Details on request) and flights cost £100 each. Car hire £250 for the month.

No brainer really but it's back to the Caravan in France for the summer.

Would imagine those prices are not during school holiday times.

I agree - it's amazing how much the price jumps up. My mum has a flat near Alicante but the £1,200 it would cost us in flights alone for the 4 of us in school holidays slightly puts me off...

Hello,

I just love it, we used to do villa holidays in Spain or Portugal but as the kids got bigger they wanted places where they could make friends.  We couldn't afford one of these types of hols unless we took them out of school and honestly we all prefer the camping trips.  They make friends and have an independence they don't get at home (our 2 beloveds are 7 and 5 this year) and wouldn't have in a villa/hotel holiday.

I love the journey, the watching the scenery change as you travel, and the playing house like you do with your tent or van (ours is a tent).  My husband likes the boyness of building the tent and manning the bbq.  We both like feeling grass (or sand) under our feet in the morning, the whole 'being close to nature' bit.

I can't say we'll do this for ever, but for now, I wouldn't swop it for any other type of holiday.  You have to do what suits you all best.

Hiya
We don’t take our kids aged 16/14yrs out of school so have to pay a premium for our hols. But we are going to the ardech with our van for 18 days last week of July 1st week of Aug at a cost of £1490 give or take a few £. Which includes tunnel £50 of Tesco vouchers, site £681.46 through cc, and fuel £460 at UK prices & red pennant motor and personal. We will not pay tolls but will have to factor in 1 night stop each way food and spends and a bit of derv money for running about while there. I don’t think that is expensive for holidays at the height of the season for a family of four when both my kids are classed as adults when it comes to pricing.
The price of derv will make a difference but we will just have maybe 1 less meal out and I won’t buy the wife so much wine

Could be in school holidays if you go early off season.

Suggest you e-mail owner - website now working http://www.vineridge-andalucia.com/index.htm

He can put you on a mailing list and send the special offers at the appropriate time.  I grabbed his super duper offer and negotiated a discount as we were staying for a month and he fitted in with the cheapest easyjet flights.

I've checked out caravan sites around here and they are not very nice - compressed dirt pitches and a bit carparkey if you know what I mean. Around the same price for a pitch as our apt and our place/price includes electric and wifi etc per the website.

I'll still be back in France with the caravan in Summer though.

Have it saved in my Favourites for next Winter but I might have to fight off a lot of people as it looks super.

Thanks Oxter

What is the road up to Comares like as we have been on some hairy roads in that area when staying in Nerja.    How long is the drive to the coast and is there any heating in the apts?

Many thanks

Last year we did a "package" holiday -although we still booked flights/hotel etc independently -to Cyprus. 10 days in August, cost us £3500 incl flight and half board for the five of us. It was all very nice and for the first few days, DH and I were pinching ourselves a lot. Dishwasher, washing machine, three bed apartment in a lovely complex with a great pool. We hired a car (£500) and did a bit of sightseeing, but it was 45 in the shade, so not too much.

By about the fifth or sixth day though we were both saying, "Yes, very nice but we'll go away to France next year, I think."

Horses for courses, but camping in France suits us and we will continue to do it despite petrol prices.

It's not the accommodation, that's reasonably cheap - it's the flights that really break the bank, when you're paying for 4 people.

You leave the coast motorway at Torre del Mar/ Velez Malaga and head north turning towards Benamargoza then Comares.

The road up towards Comares is a good surface - well maintained tarmac and obviously steep and twisty with a couple of hairpins.  About 3km up that road you leave it on a typical mountain track road - concrete surfaced in parts and dirt track in parts but an easy enough road with care.(single track with passing places)

Approx 20/25 minutes to the coast and yes oil filled radiators supplied or gas heater if you feel it necessary.  Right now it's around 20/23 deg but certainly cool enough after 8pm for one small radiator to be on.

Sorry we seem to be hijacking this thread with non caravan talk but I can send info to anyone who sends a contact, however it's best to contact the owner direct - he replies quickly to questions.  Mention the chap from Aberdeen on any enquiries! Electricity,Sky tv and wifi included in the price makes it even more attractive.

We booked an early stay - hence bargain basement accommodation price but a direct flight from Glasgow / Malaga was just over £100 per head booked a few months before departure.  You should get decent prices from Ryanair/Easyjet if booked well ahead and with one hop?  We had to drive 130 miles from home to Airport but that's not a hardship.  We got a Glasgow hotel (Normandy)with Dinner / 1 night accommodation and free car parking for a month for around £100. Hope that helps
