We are going to travel this year to Spain. Portugal and Italy for a month or two.
Does anyone know the latest deals, what their experiences of using their dongle/etc in Europe.
I understand we can often use the local cafes, but want to use it from the luxury of our own space.
We want to use a netbook to access social networks, Skype and emails ect.
We have 2 iphones one 02 the other Vodafone on contract they are not jailbroke...Yet!!
I have searched other threads but only can find info dated last yr in March.
Thanks Trisha

Any data access by mobile phone networks in Europe via a UK phone/dongle is pretty expensive and just about falls into the emergency only category. A lot of sites now have WiFi, sometimes free but ofte with a small charge and that would be the best way to go.

hi i think vodafone are doing a deal to let you use data as normal ,think its £10 a week for euro usage
Thats sound ok for a few weeks abroad....
When I was looking around to buy a TT a guy had his iphone jailbroke and he connected his laptop onto the internet from his iphone using wifi...in front of my eyes...
he asked if I wanted him to jailbrake my iphone..i said no way...apple are excellent at changing apparatus if anything goes wrong...and I have met smart***** like him before...that think they know something and can cause big problems....
However may be tempted for when I go away and my warranty runs out with apple.
Any thoughts!

for the unititated ' jailbreaking' an i phone is unlocking it from its service provider (plus a bit more)
chicks, so long as you get it done by someone who knows what theyre doing, go for it, its been done for long ewnough now to have ironed out any problems.
ps, how many i phone users does it take to change a light bulb?
We don't use a dongle, McDonalds in Europe offers free WiFi at most of its stores.....and the coffee isn't too bad either.
Using a Dongle is dead expensive, and I find that 1/2 an hour in McDonalds every few days is all I need when I'm on holiday to catch up with banking etc.
Touring France last year we found almost half the sites we used - and mostly they were cheapish ones -had wi-fi available on tap to use a laptop in the caravan. But for Spain I don't know. Sometimes we got automatic hook up, sometimes with free code from reception, and sometimes pay a little for code. But have you seen the price the Caravan Club charges for a similar service in UK?

At the moment you can get online with a 3g kindle for no extra cost though there are rumours that this is costing Amazon loads and they might change it.
If you have broadband with BT you can opt in for BTfon and get free access internet if there is a signal in the area, they also have some you can use worldwide. I use it with my ipod touch without problem. they have a web site to check available spots in uk or abroad.
We go away to Europe every year for 2 to 3 months nearly all the ACSI Sites we stop at have either free wifi or a small charge generally 5 Euros for 5 hours. You can do a lot on a computer in an hour or 5 hours. Caravan Club in the UK charge a little more now £5 for 5 hours.
