Hi,

We stayed at a site in Creully, 8.5 miles from Bayeux, 6.6 miles from Arromanches-les-Bains (Gold Beach).

The site is quiet and a short walk from the village where there are a few nice resaurants, a small super market. You have the option of staying on a marked out plot or parking up on a field. The facilities are very good and clean. No pool which I suspect keeps families away. There is also no shop on the site, however you can order your bread and it is then available at reception the following morning.

There are plenty of facilities in Bayeux as well as a very good museum which is purely representing the D Day landings. There is also the largest British War Graves Cemetary for the D Day landings.

Arromanches has the remnants of the Mullberry harbour as well as a couple of museums. On the headland is a 360 degree cinema showing films of the landings and the progress of the invasion.

We only stayed for 2 nights but do intend to go back as I thoughly enjoyed the site and the history.

As you drive through this area of France you will see many smaller cemetaries depicting various battles etc.

Regards

Bob

Take a look at Le Picard. It is small, very quiet and in a good position to be able to visit the area you want.

We stayed here in 2008 :

Chateau Martragny

We cycled everywhere, the beaches, Pegasus Bridge, Bayeux, Caen so nothing can have been too far away ! I think the only time we used the car was to go to the supermarket just outside Bayeux.

The campsite was lovely - nice and quiet in early September. A nice big pool too.

We were tenting then in a SunCamp Sprint XL I think ? (forgotten the name of it)

Yes, the Municipal at Falaise is excellent. Plus we found some newsreel footage on Youtube of the Nazis trying to blast the castle from pretty much exactly where our pitch was! The site is a short walk to the town centre has a library tv room, free wifi and a bread delivery.

shirl250, just a reminder, when posting details of a camp site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read or left.

I've edited your link now, so if you could leave a review when you get 5 minutes, would be much appreciated by all!

Many thanks

Ian

We stayed here for several days at the end of our holiday last year. We left about 30th June, and the site was getting busy.  The pool is a strange one;  shallows at either end, and deep in the middle section. Might be a bit daunting for a weak swimmer.

Bertie.
