I was recomended this site by Savanne. It looks really good however a few of the campsite reviews leave me worrying about the noise from the n10. So where are the best pitches, I would like to be by the river if possible but more important a bit of quiet.

Have you had a look at the site plan (photograph)?  The road shown on the  very bottom left hand corner of the map is not the N10 but the D7, a quieter little road which leads off the N10.  Have a look on Google earth for the actual distance of the N10 from the site and a really good view of the situation of the site.  think, like anywhere else, at peak traffic time, with the wind in the wrong direction, you might hear some road noise but we didn't find it a problem at all.

When we stayed there we were on area 8 of the site plan (on the left side of the river shown, on the bend of the river), with a beautiful riverside pitch, and very near but not next to the sanitary block.  That area is towards the road end of the campsite, but we never had a problem with noise.

Having said all that, we have friends who live nearby - and we personally didn't find the area around the site all that attractive.  I'd much prefer somewhere in a more scenic area for my main holiday.

We go there every year and I hear the N10 at night sometimes because I'm a bad sleeper. Hubby and son don't seem to hear it. I've never heard it during the day.

The area isn't particularly spectacular but we like the little villages, markets etc. There are plenty of green lanes where we got biking (and it's reasonably flat). Mainly though, we go because our son made firm friends there and we found we started to make friends too. The waterpark is excellent (especially for teenagers) and the animations are low key, but include evening water polo for over 14's and adults.

If you're in a tent, looking at the pic Val has embedded you probably want to be at the far end on the left. The pitches down there are the ones without water & sewage (not far to a tap though). Pitch 156 is directly on the water at the end, 157, 158 have the road in front but a clear view of the river and then there are 3 or 4 un-numbered pitches where the tarred road gives out which are pretty secluded.

There are good pitches at the far end on the other side but they have got far too shady over the years. Numbers in the 60's are good.

I have some photos
here you might like to look at.

hope that helps!

We stayed at this campsite in a caravan and can't recall hearing any road noise.  The campsite was great and we had good weather but although this is one of the nicest campsites we have stayed on would probably not go again as we ended up spending a lot of time on the campsite as not too much going on nearby - visited Futurescope, and a monkey zoo, did a bike ride but it was really to hot to do much walking and biking, visited a nearby lake and went for a swim.

Decided after this holiday that for us anyhow we needed to be near a beach as we like to go for a walk along the coast in the evening.  We did stay for 2 weeks though and on reflection  I think 1 week there would have been nice and we should have then moved on to the coast.

Have decided that I would not stay on a site for 2 weeks again always 2 different sites as I got bored - seemed to just do the same things every day.

We spent a couple of nights there last year and I don't recall any road noise at all. Neither do I remember mum complaining about it and she is a dreadful sleeper. It was a nice site. We were blessed with a riverside pitch and loved watching the moorhens and chicks.
The only issue I had with the site was that there were often huge piles of kids coming down the waterslide together and once nearly landed on my youngest. Not the sites fault at all but just a niggle.
The team were extremely friendly and helpful - even to the extent of jump-starting me when my car died on the day we were due to leave. They were wonderful.
Don't remember much of the area - we visited futuroscope whilst there but that's all I can remember.
