Hi and may i thank you all for your polite replies, and you have all, left us with some "more" homework to do.

Correct,as no children, and owing to my partners nature, she will not go "on spec",we will still book somewhere before we go.

Many thanks

Terry & Karen.

Hi terrybiker

Do you want small sites, inexpensive sites, sites with swimming pools, very French sites or sites with Brits?  Do you just want to stay on one site or move about?  If you can answer these questions you will get replies on specific sites in the Royan/La Rochelle area.

For starters click on the campsite search above.   Then click on the map of France and then click on the Poitou Charentes area and you will get loads of different sites to look at.   The ACSI sites or Camping cheque sites should work out cheaper in June and there is no need to book.  We have been on sites with 10 vans or less in June (in many sites) but if you are going to stay on one site, book if it keeps your partner happy or book the first 3 nights and then you can stay on if you like it or move on if you don't.

No children means that you should be able to go out of term time. This when the sites are the their busiest. I would suggest not booking more than 1 week on a site as you might find somewhere in the course of your travels and decide that will suit you better.

The further South you go, the better the weather becomes.

Take an A3 Michelin road atlas and write a note of the places that you find for future reference. I've done this for a number of years and it's saved me going back to some hell holes.

Camping Bois Soleil at St Georges de Dideronne, 5km from the centre of Royan, is highly recommended by others on this forum.   We've met several people who've mentioned it to us as their favourite site.

It is a Camping Cheque site, but no doubt you could book a pitch there anyway. If you choose to use Camping Cheques then you'll pay £13.95 per night, for two people, tent and vehicle, awning, and electricity.  The normal site tariff during June is between 26 and 31 euros.

In France some of the towns and villages run what are termed Municiple Campings. I was sent this by a pal today. They can be very affordable

Thanks from me also.
