We will be arriving in Calais with our caravan at 1am in early May & need a secure place to stop overnight and many campsites will be shut for the night. It appears that it is not safe to stay either at the port or at motorway services stations. Can anyone help please? We will be heading south on the A26.

I cannot imagine why it would not be safe to stay at the port.

The cark park signed "Sans Billet" (Without tickets) may be open and without barriers but there is a French CRS (French Riot Police) Office overlooking it and on one occasion we used it we witnessed their 'efficiency' in checking a couple of pedestrians who weren't even in the car park .

We have stayed there on many occasions with numerous others I might add and, as a general rule make it our first night stop after the long drive to the channel port at the start of our holiday.

The Police Office is about 50mts in on the left before the ticket offices.  

I agree, I have stopped there for years, it's perfectly safe.

 How many campsite have police dog patrols all through the night?

 Answer none, but the port car park does.
