HI all
Have you seen the reminder in cc club mag that camping cheque sites are only permitting one pet this year. We have two small well behaved dogs that have travelled with us for the last six years with no problem,I have just phoned two sites we use regulary [ Chatau Grandespette and Lac de leiz ] both camping cheques sites and they have confirmed they will accept both animals. I am now thinking whats going on ? has anyone got any further info or comments.

It isn't that Camping Cheque sites will only permit one pet (though some do), it's that the Camping Cheque includes the cost of one pet - and any more than that you have to pay for yourself directly to the site.
I should say I haven't read what the article in the CC magazine says, but I suspect they have got their facts wrong!

I'm on Mas Nou in Spain,(still!) a camping cheque site, and have seen several people with more than one dog so I think Val is right, one dog is included in the price and you possibly need to pay a supplement if you have any more -though it seems dogs are free here anyway low season.

Thanks Jaymac and Val A
I also thought the same as yourselves but page 47 cc mag states and I quote,
Please note that only one pet per pitch is permitted on camping cheque sites, during 2011. This new rule is clearly indicated in its site directory.
I do not have a current directory only last years which states 1 pet included, but this statement says 1 pet per pitch?.
Maybe its what Val A says that it could be an error, but why say new rule.

Hi Steve - I can find two references to pets in the 2011 Camping Cheque directory, which say
Page 4
1. A single fixed price. One Camping Cheque is valid for one night for two people on a standard pitch, with a caravan plus car, motor home or tent. One domestic animal is included in the price of the Camping Cheque (on campsites that accept pets).........
On page 20
2. Most Camping Cheque campsites accept animals. Please refer to General Info on the site's page to discover whether or not your chosen destination accepts animals. If pets are allowed on site you are limited to one. On most Camping Cheque sites dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Some campsites may refuse certain dog breeds (...............
(Bold is mine, it's not in bold in the directory).
However you've obviously referred to the site - which is happy to accept two - but I do think the meaning of this is not really clear. It's perhaps an instance where a call to Camping Cheques themselves will clear up any confusion. I suppose it's fine if you know what your intended destination is, but if, like us, you're touring then if a site says 'only one pet............' what do you do! If you do check with them please can you report back what is said as I'm sure some people on here take more than one pet with them.

It sounds as though Camping Cheque site owners have collectively said to their trade body that they would like to cut down the number of animals on their sites. I remember one site manager who said to me as we arrived, "We have already got more dogs here than people". He wasn't smiling as he said it, and he didn't seem terribly happy about that situation.

Thanks for the info so far everyone.
I will try over the next couple of days to contact campinng cheques as Val A suggested and report back.
AS for Berriow
comment all I can say is we started camping because of our dogs, you know the the old saying a dog is for life not just for christmas. I believe if campsite owners were to limit or ban our four legged friends then here are some other things they may consider. Unruly children, peaple that watch coronation street or some other soap at 180 decibells whilst holidaying in say Burgundy, Perhaps a get together of campers where the vino has flowed a little to freely and they are trying to drown out the morbid sounds of eastenders, or maybe people with tatoos the list is endless.
I personally feel live and let live within reason and camping is for all not just for the few otherwise we would all be leaving our dogs and tvs etc behind and jetting off to Benidorm.
Please note no no offence to cora or eastender watchers or people with tattoos.oops or people that holiday in Benidorm.

Hi again Steve,
I've just noticed that in the Camping Cheques directory (2011) on the information page for each campsite it does actually now specify the number of dogs which are accepted. At some sites this says 'Max 1 on leash' - but on others it says 'Max 5 on leash' - I haven't looked through all the sites, only as far as page 50 (Domaine du Logis, which is a 'Five Dog' site!!! ).
At least this clarifies things a little - although Gandspette does say 'Max 1.. ' as does Lac de Liez - and yet you say they're happy to accept your two! Perhaps now best that dog owners check first - although this does go against the spirit of using Camping Cheques.
I have an electronic download of the 2011 directory. The link doesn't appear to be working for others to download it but I can send it by email if anyone would like it.

Thanks again Val A and Warbis 66.
That seems to clear things up a little, I think the cc mag reminder is probably wrong with its wording???. The two sites I rang to check are sites we have stayed previously with our two mutts, we do not have plans to use them this year. We like yourself tour without prebooking and this year are using the ACSI directory. Which tells you if one or more dogs are accepted, Hence not having this years cc directory. I guess if other dog owners take the statement on face value camping cheque sites maybe down on there revinue this year.
Oh and although these two sites are supposed to only accept one dog and have told me over the phone they will accept two, just goes to show how certain rules and regs abroad are typicaly ignored. pity its not the same in Britain.

FIVE dogs allowed at Domaine du Logis ? Well that's a site to avoid ! And you say there are other places that allow five? Name and shame them please - let the world know !

there may be a good reason for accepting so many dogs before you name and shame, perhaps they are located near a sheep dog trials area. and at certain times of the year they can boost there income?. Also I think I should reasure you that most dog owners keep there pets under control, on a leash and clean up after them. Unlike some parents we have met on our travels.
