Booked our first ever folding camper hol in France at La Garangeoire in the Vendee, which looks a really nice site.  Have done French camping 16 times now but always in the pre errected tents/static caravans so it will be a change to use our own unit and also to go without kids (now too grown up to come, or so they say)

We are on the fairly basic pitches with 8 amp ehu (all the better pitches were gone) but can anyone tell me if we have to worry about reverse polarity on this site?

We have a continental plug adaptor for ehu already so ok with either type but we have nothing in place to deal with reversed polarity and not sure how to sort anyway though I think I now understand what it is at least!

Is there anything we need to know about the site.  I think it looks nice and as we have done larger static sites for years when our kids were teenages, we are not too bothered by large or small sites and can take something from both!  (We are still young ourselves too)

Can anyone recommend things to do locally and/or really nice places to eat.   We have not done the Vendee area for years so may be out of touch.

Thanks

We're going in August as well - first time at the site but we went to Le Pin Parasol last year, which is just down the road. We popped in to have a look at La G and it was very similar to Le Pin, just a lot prettier IMO (greener with more trees, flowers etc).

The site is pretty remote - 15 minutes drive to the beach, nearest town about 5 mins drive. Considering how many Brits are supposed to go to La G, I doubt there will be any problems with polarity stuff - if there is, I'm sure the site shop will be well prepared.

Last year, we were very lazy and alternated between the beach and the pools, so didn't see too much of the area. Visited Coex (5-10 mins drive) which has a good selection of shops, pretty church and an interesting Kew-garden style place. Apremont is another 5 minutes further north, has a small chateau, river (which you can hire pedalos on) and a lake you can swim in.

Beaches are very nice and the towns around them are great to wander around.

...and don't forget the weather - only the Med coast gets better in France and thats a days drive further.

We did go a few times but over 12 years ago and with little kids in tow so we had to do little kids things like zoos and beaches.  We may still do them now but are thinking of what else too now that we have some freedom!  We actually miss having the kids with us so need ideas to fill the time.

Yes we have done the lazy thing too in the past and stayed on site a lot of the time because the kids were happy.
We have done the south of France too and really like the weather but did not fancy the drive with our FC in tow.  Maybe next year when we have more time we will travel further and take our time getting there.

Remoteness not an issue as the drive to beaches/towns is not that great and I did not fancy Le Pin as it seemed to have loads of rules (not that we break rules )

The reviews on this forum say it all - many people love it, a few don't. My daughter and her children were in that category and said, "too big. too busy, too many people in and around the pool, too British, too cut off , too little to see in the area"... and never went again.

A brilliant site! The pool may indeed be a bit busy at times, but there are some fantastic beaches about 20-30 mins away. These are almost completely empty early afternoon. Failing that, there is a lake at Apremont where you can swim in safety.

Lac du Jaunay is a few miles away, and you can hire bikes on site to cycle there.

Saint Gilles Croix de Ville is a cracking coast town about 20 mins drive away, and you'll always find somewhere there to eat good food!

For a really good day out, ask at reception about Puy de Fou (I think that's how you spell it!!)

We've been two years running - going elsewhere this year but may be back next year. We love it!!

I quite fancy visiting Lac du Janunay as we have enjoyed lake swimming before when staying at other sites in France.  Can you really cycle there as we are thinking of either hiring bikes or buying some folding ones to take with us?
