Hi all, We're booked to catch the 22.15 P&O ferry (car and caravan) Dover to Calais next Tuesday (17th May). Has anyone any experience of turning up early and been allowed to catch earlier Ferry. l turned up early a few years ago and was put on a couple of hours early but l've no idea of the current situation. Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks Martin

They will always let you take the ferry before the one you are booked on for no extra charge, earlier than that usually you have to pay extra or take a pass to leave the dock. In your case, much earlier & you will be in a peak charge band so it will cost you more to go early.
A lot depends on how full the ferries are. I've been put in a stand by area and put on the next available ferry without extra charge. If they're full, you'll be there until your booked ferry.
With both P and O and Norfolk Lines, we've always managed to catch an earlier ferry without extra charges - usually in May, around this time, and usually a couple of hours before. With Sealink we were asked to wait until the next crossing in our 'price band' which was some hours away, so we had to sit in the van for four hours on the dock in Calais!

Last time we arrived early for Norfolk Line they checked the prices of the crossings. If the crossing we would be taking was less or the same price then fine. If it was more then we would have to pay the difference.
