We went in high season and it was packed but we really enjoyed it. It is quite steep we had three very small kids at the time but left the buggy. Agree with others it's expensive but if your kids like Harry potter the Benedictine monks in their long robes and st Michael slaying the dragon added to the fun for my kids.

I have read St Michales mount is always really really busy ....just wondering what others experiences are when visiing with young ones?
There's a shop half way up the hill on Mont St Michel that sells knives, daggers, swords and all sorts of other nasties. When we went there with my pal we wondered where his youngest lad was. He was in the shop and the nice old Chinese lady who runs the place was trying to take his money off him for a very nice pointy knife - that's my view on the shops on M St M

I'll second the recommendation for St Mere Eglise.  We went on the recommendation of ?Graham who posted earlier in this thread.  Sitting in the square next to the church was really evocative and the museum is worth the entrance fee.

We're thinking of stopping off at St Nazaire (between our visits to Brittany & the Vendee) this year - has anyone been there?  Is it worth a trip to the u-boat pens for my war/history obsessed son?

At Le Picard from 24 July this year. Anyone know of any gentle cycling trails in the area please?

Thanks.
