Hi SASullivan - Have a look at the ACSI website (www.campingcard.co.uk). This offers sites for 11, 13 and 15 euros, and on some sites up to three children under 6 go free. The charge included two adults, pitch, car, caravan and awning (or tent or motorhome) and electricity. This can be quite a saving, as usually pitch prices in France are for two adults, etc., but children are paid for with a supplement.
I've just had a quick look, and Les Peneyrals in the Dordogne has a water complex, with indoor pool (in case of inclement weather in September), but is only open until the 14th September.
Many sites in France close by the middle of September, and most sites are quiet then, so perhaps bear this in mind if your dates are not fixed yet. The first two weeks in September is a good time to holiday, though, and is when we usually go.
