We're off on 13th LD lines night boat Portsmouth to Le Havre. Spending almost 3 weeks aiming to get to Provence by the Med over Rhone Alps and then back up via Loire to Cherbourg, so plenty of petrol used. We're planning on about £480 week including petrol and (not many) tolls. Our normal weekly budget is about £180 at home including petrol so the extra £300 per week covers petrol, wine for use and for taking home (usually lasts us well past Xmas!)occasional meals and coffees out, few presents to take home and some camp sites, (most already paid for with camping cheques). The petrol is what takes most of the budget as the wine we buy is like others have said, from llittle outlets at road side, tried and tested and then buying more for home and the large super markets. We go for the bottles with the gold, silver medals on and never been let down!!
We definately found Spain much better value for money than France. Foodstuffs were about half of what we were paying in France, 1.89€ a kilo for strawberries, chicken breasts about 4€ for enough for three meals for the two of us but brandy at 5€ a bottle and vodka at 3.99€ were absolute bargains!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Would agree with the above we have just returned from Spain four weeks ago after spending 3 months out there and its far cheaper than France .
A weekly shop in Spain is about 20% cheaper than the equivalent in France and diesel , alcohol and cigarettes are also considerably cheaper .
Were looking to re-locate out there in the next 3-4 years if all go's to plan
