Hi has anyone stayed recently at the Loon Plage PC?

http://www.premiereclasse.com/hotel/en/france/north-straits-of-dover/nord/dunkerque.htm

Last year it was getting very run down and in need of paint on the walls and some tlc although to be fair the bedding was clean.

It's very handy for the ferry so would stay again but only if it's had a lick of paint!

We have been twice to the "Premiere Classe" at Armbouts Cappel, which is only 13 miles South, from getting of the Ferry, very nice hotel with a Campanile Hotel in it's grounds, so you have the chance of getting a decent evening meal with 10% discount as a "Premiere Classe" customer.

Also you get to take breakfast, in the Campanile, which is a little more extensive than what the "Premiere Classe" breakfast offers at no extra cost over the "Premiere Classe" breakfast, in fact we stocked up from the breakfast bar, which sorted lunch for us on the journey South that day!.

I would personally not want to be at any hotel, as close to the ferry port, as what the Loon Plage hotel is.

Thanks Francais

I'll try that then.  Was fine the first time, and ok second time, then last time it had gone downhill through use I imagine.

Pity as it's 2 mins to the ferry but I'll settle for 13 mls.

Great place UKCS for the benefit of others' experiences!

Much obliged.

Hi Oxter.

We have also used the Campanile hotel at Armbouts Cappel, the rooms are slightly better than the "Premiere Classe" but not worth the extra 20Euro unless you can get a Campanile special offer.

Did not seem too run down last time I was there in the autumn?? Maybe we had a good room though! Arrived late though so didnt look around too much. Nice breakfast outside in the morning sun.

Thanks for replies.  I checked out the Campanile Website and they do 20% off if you book 20 days in advance but there doesn't appear to be a facility for registering to receive offers (like Travelodge do)

Premiere do 10% off for 10 days in advance but it is non-refundable if you have to cancel.

Armbouts would be handy enough E42 per night is the rack rate,

I get Campanile offers Oxter so there must be able to register with them. I get offers for the entire Accor group which includes Campanile, Kyriad, Premiere Classe and Mercure. We have used the Kyriaad at Loon Plage a lot so it may be that you have to book before you receive the link to register.

Just checked recent trip advisor reports http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g661450-d488881-Reviews-Premiere_Classe_Dunkerque_Armbouts_Cappel-Armbouts_Cappel_Nord_Nord_Pas_de_Calais.html

and most still showing ok for the money which is all we need.  Booked at E37.80 with the 10% discount for early booking (no cancellation/change obviously)

Thanks again Francais - I'll try to remember to post again on current situation when we get back in case anybody else is interested.

Hi Oxter.

I am booked in at Armbouts Cappel hotel for next July!, you got a better deal than me, 39.60Euro with the 10% discount, fixed no cancel booking.

The Campanile restaurant is in the same grounds as the Premiere Classe Hotel, and the meals we have had there have always been superb, and good value.

Website probably recognised I was a Scot and automatically gave me a good deal - It's the "Auld Alliance"  Scotland/France relationship you see.  That was before the EC and all this Eurozone rubbish.  I bought some Euros recently and I'm thinking I'll use them in the Monopoly game instead.  Is all this money economy bust stuff going to end soon and we all get back to news of murders and phone hacking or are we all going belly-up?

Hi Val.

Unfortunatley no jolly's for us this year, due to the mother-in-law, passing away back in February, so we kinda need to be on hand for the now widowed father-in-law, who at 85 years is not in good shape at all.

All part of lifes rich tapestry, anyway other family members will be doing the honours next year, whilst we grab three weeks of to go to France in July.

Andy.

We found the perfect campsite for the ferry. Chateau Gandspette, Eperleque. The campsites and hotels near Dunkirk are awful. Not a nice way to end your holiday!!!

Hi BobCat10.

That's why we stay at the "Premiere Classe" Armbouts Cappel, it's 13 miles South of Dunkerque ferry port.

Just got my bill from Barclay card, and the cost of the hotel for next July is £35.73 !

We have stayed there twice before, it's a very good hotel for the money, with a very nice Campanile restaraunt in the grounds, and as a "Premiere Class" guest you get 15% of your evening meal. It all makes for a very nice end to our fortnights camping holiday in France, with no faffing around having to pitch the tent for just one night, no doubt in the rain as well being Northern France, now that would not be my idea of how to end the holiday lol.
