Trying to find somewhere that matched Bel Ombrage which was just perfect for us last year.Large pitches by the river, beautiful views and quiet at night!!
We really want a riverside pitch so have Domaine de gil and Le Val de L'arre on hold for last 2 weeks of August

Can't help with the Ardeche, but just wanted to let you know that I'm so glad you enjoyed Bel Ombrage. It's not my site, but I was (I believe) the first on here to visit (back in 2006) and I loved it so much and raved about it that lots of people have since been, and if the reviews are anything to go by, loved it as much as we did.
Ah yes Bel Ombrage just ticked all those 'boxes' especially with the river Ceou which is why we want to find something similar where the children 4,7 and 9 can play in and perhaps canoe. We did all canoe last year but the Dordogne is like custard compared to the Ardeche and the little one will be too young.
We dont really want lots of 'animations' or organised entertainment just a small site with river, pool, views and village within walking distance.
Zoover reviews are all good for the above sites so I might just have to put all names in a hat and......
Hi Pickles.
"Domaine de Gil" is a superb campsite, ticked all our box's and then some.
Been middle two weeks July 2009, and first two weeks July 2010, the weather was absolutley awesome +40Deg C and wall to wall sunshine, thought I was in paradise lol.
Can't go this year, due to family stuff, but are booked in again for July 2012, 16 nights, can't wait, even though it's over a year away.

Hi Pickles.
Forgot to mention, that the spa village, Vals Les Bains, is just under a 1 mile walk from "Domaine De Gil" and mkes for quite a pleasant stroll, if going for an evening meal, or if you wan't to visit the Sunday morning market, without having the hassle of parking the car.
Of course it's the same market folk that visit Aubenas and Vallon Pont etc, with just a few less stalls.
HI we have stayed at Le Moulin Indigo [ St Martin] a couple of times and realy like it there. From what you have said it should be near perfect, up until two years ago the site used to be a municipal, The new owners have improved it greatly with new sanitary block swimming pool etc. Its only a two minute walk to the small town or across the bridge to the next, paddling fishing, canoeing etc. Hope this helps, have a good holiday,
Good to hear Indigo le Moulin is worth stopping at. We're there this year about 25/26/June. Say hello if you're there. we're the ones in the oldest VW trooper van on site!!

This forum is so fantastic. For the last 5 weeks my kitchen table has been covered in maps of France, guide books and piles and piles of A4 print outs of campsite reviews from ukcs and zoover.
I have a shortlist of 6.That's not a shortlist is it!!
Last year was the same but towards the end it was only between Bel Ombrage and Le Capeyrou and it was a tough decision but thanks to essexmum who led the way and the following reviews we made the best choice.
Hope I'm not the only one who takes so long to decide!!
I know what you mean Bridie, but you have to have a little faith ! The weather down there cannot be as bad as early june last year on cote d azur, can it ????
Hi bridie we are in a autotrail apache with two small schnauzers for company, we will probably arrive two or three days after you leave, still never mind there is always next year.
