Can anyone recommend some decent aires to use when travelling from Calais to St Jean de Monts during the day?  I particularly would like to know about decent UK style loos!  I have terrible memories of being confronted by 'hole in the ground' horrors at some places!

Many thanks all.

If you are using motorways most of the way they have service areas same as UK. The toilets are usually reasonable & always UK style these days. Avoid the parking areas without services, the toilets there are normally in a very poor state. As you go through a motorway toll booth there is a small parking area on the right. Normally a toilet there as well.

it also depends on which route you take! if youre going through towns (avoiding tolls - around £45 to st jeans de monts) and need fuel, why not use the local supermarket, the toilets there are normally pretty decent and fuel is cheaper!

I agree standards have increased over the last few years - not seen only hole in ground toilets at staffed Aires for a few years now, there is normally either a choice of both types or more often UK style only.

These are particulary good on the route you are likely to be taking.

A16 - Baie de Somme

A28 - Harras
      Dentelle d'Alencon
