It will work. It will just cost you an arm and a leg. At the moment there is no cheap solution to accessing the net from anywhere when abroad so I rely on cheap or free wifi on Campsites and at stopover hotels together with free wifi at McDonalds when I cant get it anywhere else.

Hi, I have been researching this very thing since getting my ipad 2.  I went to every high street provider (I never trust just the one opinion!!) for advice and they all screeched nooooooooooo with an example that to view a few emails here would cost a couple of pence abroad about £3-6 pounds - and that's without any surfing!  I'll stick to wifi!

We've had free Wifi on the campsite until yesterday, and are now in McDonalds using their free WiFi.  Unless you want to be on all day I'm sure you'll find somewhere.

Hi, I am with Virgin Mobile for my mobile broadband and dongle (£8 a month). You CAN get a 7 day pass outside the UK for £30 or a 30 day pass for £60. However there are quite tight download limits here (30 Meg and 60 Meg respectively) so it would be just using the net for keeping in touch via Facebook/Twitter etc and reading the news. I think also that existing Virgin customers (for telly and phone) get 20% off these rates but that would need checking.

I agree that Wifi is the way to go here and finding a campsite with this is not too much of a challenge.

Having lived in France for some years, until recently, I can say that wi-fi hotspots are much more readily available than here. Just look out for people sitting around using their laptops.
Many large shopping centres, such as those with Leclerc or Carrefour in, have free access, and also lots of the 'Flunch' type of restaurants do the same.
The most common seemed to be the cafeterias operated by Carrefour within the centres.
We have also found French towns with signposted hotspots in the streets.
Good luck

I  noticed a sign in the cafe at the Hyper u near Adge which seemed to suggest you needed a loyalty card for the wifi, can anyone confirm this?

Hi all,

Has anyone any experience of the 3G Kindle (about £150 at Tescos), someone told me that you can access the internet (only in black and white) anywhere in the world FREE! I find it hard to believe, but live in hope.

Its true but its a horrible experience, almost impossible to navigate around the web without the patience of a saint and you need a magnifying glass to read it when you finally get to where you want to be. It is really only intended for going online to the Amazon store and Amazon are monitoring usage and rumour has it that they are pulling the 3G due to the size of the bill they get compared with book sales via 3G.

I always rely on free wifi when I'm abroad and have little problem in finding it.

However, I did see an ad for abroadband the other day and on 1st glimpse it looks quite good. Anyone had a proper look at this yet??
